Hey VK sh#t news that you are having problems with your HERO3, only suss thing with mine at the moment is turning off the wireless, otherwise sofar so good. With my small Acer netbook when I unplug it through USB connection it turns off automatically. But I don't turn off the USB port as I have endless issues when I do this getting it to work again, the same when I eject the SD memory card.

I went out rock climbing yesterday and got photos throughout the day, and I used it for a few trips in the Can-am previously and used 3/4 battery life.

Aus Warranty

My HD3 was playing up and the on line support people instructed me to return it to them in the US which I've done . I'm now wondering about the Aus warranty as it was bought here so should it have been replaced locally or do they just send it back to the US anyway ?

Hi Playdoh thanks for the reply . Yes it was a bit disappointing to have it play up on me as it was a prezzy from my kids and I had to ask for the receipt from them to claim the warranty . I've sent it back to the US so I hope that all goes well and I get a unit back that works ok .Tell me what do you do with the MP4 files , do you convert them to something else ?

Finally got a dumping of rain which meant the flood plain filled up fast, I managed to get some footage out on a ride two weeks earlier so I meshed the footage together where I could to show the changes.

Here is a good comparison of the original GOPRO HERO on the best setting compared to the HERO3 on one of the top settings. I've mashed up a series of water crossings over Cahill's Crossing on the East Alligator River into Arnhem Land. Click on the cog and watch it in 1080p for best enjoyment.

Hi All,

I have been toying with buying one of the Hero 3 Silver editions and have done a fair bit of research but can't find any details on whether there is an option to view what you have recorded on an Ipad or Iphone. From what I can gather you can preview what the camera is looking at and recording however once recorded you can't then play it back. The only way to play it back is via your desktop after transferring the files via cable.

Is this the case or am I missing something?

Hi vscorsa, you can buy a small LCD screen adaptor that plugs on the back. I have one and its good but uses a lot of battery.

Have you guys noticed that the video from the 4WD Action GoPros doesn't seem to be in typical GoPro wide angle ? I wonder if they're using a different lense , are they available ?

You cannot watch your clips back through your phone or Ipad once they have been recorded. It is only view-able whilst it is recording or on stand by. The good thing is you can change the settings on the HERO3 through the Iphone alot easier than scrolling through on the camera which is a good feature.

Touch screen is a bit wank, when you can't use it because it's in a waterproof housing, remember the waterproof housing also protectss the camera from dust, dirt and sand so will keep the camera in far better condition. Other wise it's good to view where you are pointing for photos and what not if you are not controlling it through your ipad or iphone. The issue I have found when out in my Can-am is the camera is never going to get wet or damaged because it is in a good case. But my phone isn't. Where it works well is when the camera is mounted outside of your 4WD and you want to record stop recording as you can do that through the phone. I recommend to anyone if you do plan on editing you work to record 2/3 minute clips it makes it heaps easier to import and work in basic movie making programs, it's also alot easier that trying to pick all the good bits out of say a 10-20 minute recorded video

If you can get a screen in Oz or ebay around this price you are doing well. I've ordered from an Aus ebay seller and got quick post with genuine gopro gear.

Probably more to do with all the settings you can record with on the HERO3 Black edition. Example I film mostly in 16:9 1080p at 60fps for good slow mo's, but you have the option of Ultra Wide, Medium and Narrow settings to play with.

I went for a trip today just from where I live out bush to the Arnhem Highway. Playing around with high speed video. I slow it down for a cable tie fix on the inner guard to the ARB bar then back on the road again, I have a broken cable tie around this area every time.

I have previously mounted on the windscreen and got good results however this time I needed my wipers so I mounted on bonnet.

The vibration in the bonnet destroys some of the image quality and this is visible 'blurring' which is annoying.

Maybe I'll try windscreen top lhs next time if I need wipers. Not ideal because it's off centre but better than the vibration of the bonnet.

What editing software packages are people using on a mac? iMovie only really supports 24,25,30 fps so 50fps PAL always converted to 25fps.
Not super happer with the quality of the exports from iMovie so far.

I smelled fuel when I stopped for a minute and noticed fuel leaking from below car. Lost about 60lr of fuel before I got t a serviceable road and stopped an then discovered this!
