Just found an Android app that remotely controls the GoPro. Going by the description, it only works with Wi-Fi BacPac HD Hero2.
Compatibility with new Hero3 Black will be available in Dec this year and November for White and Silver.

Hi all, I have just purchased gopro2 surf kit. For all you members using these with your vehicle which would be the best mount to buy next..the suction cup one, or the roll bar one,which I assume would fit on the loops of an ARB bar?
also going to purchase one of the lcd backpacks too,

Mike,

Go with the suction cup next, and also get the WiFi backpack instead of the LCD.
With the WiFi, you can log onto a smart phone or iPad to view what you're seeing and also change settings on the fly. You just have to down load the free GoPro App.

Agree with what Jeff said, for in car the wifi back and gopro app are fantastic, especially when used with iPad, nice big screen.

Well the Gopro site now says it expects to ship to Aus on the 20th Nov. Has anyone else pre ordered a new Hero 3?

The boss ordered a 3 black edition with a heap of extras from the US 3 weeks ago, it turned on Monday just gone. Been playing with it non stop. Now I want one!

Unfortunately Gopro haven't released the software update for the 3 black for it to work via iPhone app yet. due in their winter, so still a few months away!

It was much cheaper from the US, and from the time it left their warehouse, it was only 4 days til delivery in Perth.

Had occasion to use my Hero2 underwater recently. Unfortunately, I had not realised that the Hero2 blurs the footage unless you have the flat field case or mod.

I see that the Hero3 has a flat field case as standard. Bugga.

Dropped in to see the mob I bought the Hero2 from. His response was to buy the GoPro Dive housing:



GoPro released this not long ago in response to the growing mountain of complaints about a camera advertised as waterproof to 60' that cannot focus underwater. It works above water as well, so unless there is likely to be bouncing rocks, (The front lens is glass) the camera will probably stay in this case.

I considered the upgrade to Hero3, but I cannot see lot of advantage in it for me. I'll wait for the Hero4

Hi Jeff, looking at the wifi system on ebay...I wouldnt need the remote at all would I? the app should technically replace the remote and save me a bit of coin..

I have both the remote and the android app for the hero 2. I tested it the other weekend (still editing it for youtube) and depending on the remote device (I was using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1) signal quality may be poor resulting in disconnects and intermittent video streaming. I had it a couple of times when I had the camera mounted on the rear of the bumper on the drivers side and the tablet sitting on the front passenger seat. Overall it was good though.

So for example you may run into trouble if you have the camera mounted on the back of your camper trailer.

I use the remote for work and the best thing when comparing the Hero2 & 3 is wifi is built in on the Hero 3 thus having one device to charge whilst driving. And second, you can go above and below water without affecting video quality. As a result I will need to invest in a dive housing.

Picked up a Hero 3 Black from JB HiFi today ...... for a lil' fella it punches well above it's weight. The WiFi remote is handy but found it easier to just use the iPhone or iPad for remote control and to change settings/configurations on the run.

Even found a new use for it as a reversing camera to hook up a trailer. Slight delay with the real-time feed but still works well. Sat it on the trailer draw bar to line up the treg hitch with the tow pin. Gave a 'bars eye view' so to speak to supplement the Prado's rear view camera angle. With a trailer you can always man handle them on the truck but it gunna prove useful with a bigger rig like a 22' three ton van!

Looking forward to a week in the Vic High Country over the new year even more now with the Hero 3 recording the trip from many weird and wonderful angles.
