So I was on my way to the Wandin 4WD show last weekend - light rain falling.
Just got through Belgrave South going down the steep hill towards Belgrave, I stopped to set the Tom Tom.
Out corner of my eye I noticed a small car down the side of the hill on other side of the road, with the bonnet up.
Didn't think anything of it - stolen and abandoned cars are common around there.
All of a sudden there's a knock on my window  what the heck's going on ??
Girl about 20 or so "do you think you could tow my car out of the ditch ?"
Apprently she'd done a couple of 360's coming down the hill and ended up in the bush.
She showed me a couple of tie down points under the car ( a Citroen ).
Basically car was Ok - not too badly stuck - she just couldn't get any traction.
She said she had a rope in back - I said don't worry, I've got my own gear.
Got the snatch strap, shackles and bridle out. Got her to put the bridle and shackles on the tow/tie down points on either side.
Got her back in her car and towed it out gently - I was still very nervous about using unrated tow points.
Turned out to be an easy pull.
Then packed up the wet gear and got on to the 4WD show.
Luckily the lady seemed to know what she was doing so worked out well in the end.
I thought I managed the risks quite well, but I'd be interested to know other's position on this sort of thing ?
