i had considered doing that but the flip thought that went through my head was that he would then have a key, and the code to cut many copies, and my home address from the delivery.... i'm sure he wouldn't but i wasn't keen to give anyone the option!

        • I am another convert to the Hilux spray conversion. I approach it from the bonnet side as I read the problems with the under bonnet clip etc and read that someone tried it successfully this way. 5 minutes and all was done. The nozzles come up with a srewdriver with a rag to protect the paint and pop there you have it. Undo the rubber tube and push the new one on. Excellent!!!

Did ours too the other week. A bloke in the checkout line asked me what I was going to do with such little baskets, when I told him he said "What a great idea, you should tell Toyota about it."

                      • First mod complete. I've tek screwed it temporarily and plan to replace with nut/bolt/washer. I also found one that had a full metal bracket.

                        • I installed the fire extinguisher, but rather than drill holes into the body work, I built a bracket to mount on the existing bolt holes.

With the bracket in place, I needed longer bolts and bought SS M6 25mm to finish the job off.

The bracket was made from an old under-desk cable-tray. After cutting/grinding/drilling, I bolted it to the floor and then pounded it with a mallet to shape it into place.

One minor niggle is the fire-extinguisher's cradle-latch opens upward and there's not enough clearance to unlatch it with the seat down. I'll keep an eye out for a latch that opens in the opposite direction for faster access. This one would then become my home-extinguisher.

Could you flip it to have the nozzle at the back? Then the latch would go down? Could also save the nozzle from getting knocked (kicked)

I had the same issue and ended up putting it on the passenger side of the car temporarily to meet a safety requirement on a recent 4WD trip. But in doing so thought if i'm the only one in the car it is a long way to run around to grab it............. :?

                                Hi Yorkes,

Thanks for the suggestions. I gather we went through the same mental trauma as we installed out exinguishers .

I also considered flipping it for both unlatching and protection of the nozzle. Unfortunately with it flipped, I could not lever the extinguisher out of the cradle because of the way the body-work blocks it at that end. If my words don't make sense, I think images 8 and 9 show it more clearly

Now, if our extinguishers were shorter  we wouldn't have this problem. Still, I don't feel like it is too big a deal; though I hope I never have to find out.
