  • Which forum for camper trailers?

We're looking at getting a camper, but with so many on the market, I am looking for a resource to do some research. Can anyone recommend a forum or group specific to campers?

I've realised it's useless looking at manufacturer websites, as they promise the earth, then when looking at reviews, they're rubbish, so would be good to find a consensus of 5-10 brands that are good, then restrict the search (2nd hand) to them.

Try www.myswag.org you will find lots of good information and a lot of people who are willing to share their knowledge. I have found it very useful for repairs and mods to my camper.

Hope you find a camper that suits.

I would also recommend http://myswag.org/forum/index.php best one I have come across.

If you are looking at Jaycos then http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/JUGA/ is pretty good too.

Look, this is a long shot, but try www.myswag.org

An alternative would be to get PP members feedback. I would highly recommend a Challenge Offroad Merridian, but your budget is always the detmining factor. Also Action4wd had a comparison a few months ago I think. I will look up the mags, or alternatively look at their website for the article.

                Cheers

MLC, I did consider asking here, but to be honest, it's like looking for Prado advice on a CT forum. There may be a couple of people with knowledge, but no where near the depth and breadth available from a dedicated forum. It's also nice to just browse/search the forums, as you find out things you never even know to ask. This will be our first CT, so helps to get as much topical reading under the belt.

Regarding the 4wd Action mags, I got one about 10 months ago, with a review of CT's. The reviews were about as shallow as they come, and to top it off, they raved about the GIC campers, which all independent reviews give a hammering. Perhaps something to do with multiple double page adds? Anyway, their advice lost all credibility with that.

Camper trailers and working out which one is best for you is going to take some working out, the options and variations are just enourmous. Hiring one for a weekend is a good way to get a feel for what style you would like. I know a few people who have bought cheap second hand campers just to find out what works and what doesn't then sell them and buy what they really want. Research is the key, both on line and in the real world.

I imagine PP members could give you good advise though as half of the PP members are also on myswag.org

Best of luck with your research.

                    Cheers Andrew

I agree 100% with this comment. It's the best form of research you'll do.
Also, there is a dedicated magazine for camper trailers called 'Camper Trailer Aust.' that is really good. They review 5-7 trailers every month.
