  • What would you buy if Toyota didn't exist???

Had a chat with a mate the other day who said to me if I didn't own the Prado what would I drive ? so I said a 200 series Sahara V8 he said OK No toyota's...they don't exist..That was an easy one because I spotted a car in a mag that combines my love for V8's and 4x4ing so I told him "see below link"

    What would YOU drive???

VW Tourag, saw one in the high country with BFG's on it and it went everywhere with ease, also don't mind the new Ford Ranger dual cab.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

one of my family had a chipped tourag V10 turbo diesel that made about 900nm of torque and when like a turd off a chrome shovel....very quick. the only thing that let it down was the 20" rims and low profile tyres it was crap in sand he looked into smaller rims but the brakes were too big, Very very nice car though.
+1 the new Ranger looks great...New Mazda equivalent looks horrendous.

I made this up for My brother in laws VW when he kept getting stuck at greenhead lol

ummmm EVERYTHING...I went out with some friends a few weeks ago and a guy tagged along with a new Amarok, it wasn't too special in the sand but I guess a lift and bigger tyres would help. It did sit with no wheels turning but clutch smoking once or twice as well.

No one's mentioned Mitsubishi! The Pajero and Challenger look alright in theory and closer to the Prado than anything else IMO.
                    Cheers, Brad

People talk about patrols which obviously make great tough fourbies, but I don't think that they make very good daily drivers like prados (great allrounders) or pajeros!
                          Cheers, Brad

Pajero would only be ok if it was free and you kept it for the warranty period.

I'd never buy a Mitsubishi again with the run we had. Two supercharged all wheel drive Magnas; 5 gearboxes, 9 diffs, multiple drive shafts, a supercharger assembly, and many other problems later, finally got rid of them both.

Do you ever think that companies have probably held back on giving Toyota a run for their money because its a losing battle, they're a tried and tested ozzy favourite.

Theres basically no competition for the 70 series Toyotas.... maybe Landrover Defender.

Theres only really 2 in the running for mid sized which is yours truly and another that starts with P and is well discribed in the spanish language. Pathy, Hummer, Jeep, Hyundai, Kia, Ford ect .... each to their own.

Utes, without Toyota theres many to chose from, Amarok looks sweet, the Triton is well equiped though butt ugly, D-max, new Mazda...

Which really leaves the Patrol standing on its own at the top of the pile.
