Well actually I did take offence because you didn't make that remark at any of the other "ordinary" rides posted. I didn't realise it had to be a performance supercar to be posted in this thread.

As I said it's not the GT four wheel drive twin turbo that they built in the early 90's. The only other decent Celica was the twin cam of the late 70s. The 6th generation (pictured) had a 1.8 or the 2.2 Camry engine and a whopping 135hp compared to the GT4 at 250hp.
Any Celica GT4 that was around at the time I got the black Celica would have been rather long in the tooth. Performance car or not it would just have been a money pit. I owned the non-GT4 version of the same series prior to the 6th generation one, sold it because it was getting a bit long in the tooth too.

You've seen the current toy in the shed before - the Cobra.
I went back through the thread before I made the previous post and didn't see it in here, apologies if I missed it.

    • Maybe wrong but I'm sure the GT4 celica which were around in my days working at Toyota dealer were never twin turbo ?? And the supra turbo which I luuuvvd driving was awesome. For memory the GT 4 second gen was up around 170kw AWD but heaps of turbo lag the supra was lethal in the wet and were a big heavy thing but great fun to drive. Bet the cobra would turn some heads, it would surely turn mine if I heard it coming .... Cheers Steve

            • Sweet looking REX LifesAbeach, I certainly wouldn't have a licence left if I owned one of these. I have driven a mates STI and man did that thing have some go. My wife who was in the passengers seat when I took it for a run said no way. My mate reckons I was driving it like miss daisy. I said not my car to flog so he took the wife for a real drive, she was nearly sick by the time they got out. She couldn't believe how he through it round the bends where we were and it just stuck to the road. The Toyota 86 certainly pulls the looks but would be sweet if they had the turbo motor from the rex's. They go ok but should go faster to suit the looks lol......a nice car though....Cheers Steve

You are correct in pointing out that the thread isn't specifically about supercars. I thought it was about other cars that you drive, not cars that you once owned.

OK but what does that have to do with it being a hairdresser's car?

                        • A hair dresser's car is a car that looks like it should go like a Ferrari but actually has the performance of a Citroen 2CV. Cars with all the flares, spoilers, big rims, huge exhausts, etc. Cars like Hyundai Exels with body kits, SAAB convertibles, they fail to deliver on performance. Here's a quote from a quick google search:

"If you’ve never heard the term “hairdresser’s car”, it’s essentially a sporty-looking (often convertible) car with performance that doesn’t necessarily live up to its go-fast looks.

And while the Mazda MX-5, Toyota Celica and Audi TT have been labelled hairdressers' cars in the past, a UK study has found that the car most commonly driven by barbers and hairstylists is actually a Mini hatchback.

The study looked at data from more than 18,000 hairdressers to compile a list of the most popular cars driven by coiffeurs. The Mini One (an entry-level Mini similar to the recently released Ray model) topped the list, and was found to be three and half times more likely to be driven by a hair stylist than anyone else."

                          • Actually, I've just been doing some work on SWMBO's Exel. It has mags, boot spoiler, front air dam. It drives like a go-kart and it uses bugger all fuel. She's not a hair dresser though, she works at the post office.

                            • Expaining what the term means doesn't answer the question as to why you picked on my car out of all those posted here. I didn't call your Cobra names did I?
