Yes they are a bit dearer but having the comfort of knowing that you are covered whilst out playing compensates for that. Also comfort in knowing all accessories like lift kits etc are also covered. The first year I was with them they were very competative and have found them to be so since. Yes there is cheaper insurance out there but will it cover you as well? I would rather pay a little extra to know I'm covered rather than try and save a few dollars and then go through a heap of angst and hardship should anything unexpected happen to the vehicle.

I'm with TCIS mate, mentioned it a few posts ago. How have you found them over the years? I've got the Prado insured with them here for full comprehensive agreed value plus accessories. The premium isn't cheap, but hen again insuring anything in South Hedland isn't cheap. People around here have a nasty habit of doing some dumb sh1t to other peoples property, mate have I got some stories about this joint, only the forum doesn't have the bandwidth for me to tell em.

No one mentions TCIS. I have been with them for a couple of years now because they cover all accessories and also cover you where ever you are whether it be on road or off road. They also cover your camping gear etc. Give them a look

Im with the RAA, could have gotten cheaper with CGU or AAMI but it was only $100 dearer at $905 and i have already tested out their "offroad" cover a couple of years back and they fixed the damage no probs.

Wow I just received my insurance renewal. I have full 4wd insurance via the FWDVIC insurance plan, rating 1, on $55K agreed value and all accessories, they want $1800 up from $1600 last year. I think I might get some quotes tomorrow.

    G'day,

When I had the old Surf it was insured for full comp agreed value with tcis 4wd insurance, now it was costing me $478 while I was living in Roxby Downs and being a mining town, mostly closed to employees of the mine and associated industries had virtually no crime. The move to Port Hedland and the change in address details bumped this figure up to $1240 for the same policy and came as quite a shock. I learnt quickly from joining the neighbourhood watch that there is a higher incidence of crime and break ins around here and although expensive thought the price was justified, not much else I could do really.

When it came time to insure the Prado I did shop around and ended up going with tcis again as their off road cover is what I was interested in. The policy on the vehicle is full comp agreed value for $1575 per year. Contents insurance was also a nightmare and also went up substantially when we changed our location to Port Hedland.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

    Stop Press,
Well after reading the policies and deciding to go with AAMI, I rang them up and was put on hold for 45 mins !!! thats NOT the kind of company I' want to sign with, imagine if you had to claim !!!, so back to the drawing board for me, other than GIO can anyone recommend a good insurer who will actually BE there when you call and not put you on hold forever ? BTW I tried the RAC and couldn't even get through so I wont be going there full stop,
cheers for any help in advance,
    Davy

RAA for me in SA at about $950. Choice of repairer is the key criteria for me as I've seen some shocking repairs done by the "authorised" repairer. Apparently insurers can use some sort of auction like arrangement and the lowest bidder to repair usually gets the job. Not saying they are all bad but I like to make those sort of decisions for myself - bit like choosing the doctor, barber, partner all by yourself.
    Cheers,
    Soz

I use QBE. They where offering the best deal at the time for me. For $475 they cover all accessories, free windscreen coverage, car rental and the kicker, they cover for off road damage at no extra cost (as long as you are there legally) at the time other company's wanted $100 to $400 extra to cover for off road. I've not made a claim yet but the outlaws have and never had a bad word to say.

RACQ is who I use. It went up this year with the 2012 build Kakadu T/D but at $622 for such as expensive vehicle its pretty good value. That also includes hire car option I am rating 1. My last claim was about 6 years ago when a piece of gyprock came flying up on my car after a truck drove over it he didnt know and didnt stop. The 2011 VX was only $ 460 to insure. The reason they gave me for the $160 increase for the Kakadu was the higher value of the car.

Amazingly I'm staggered at how cheap $460 is!

When I was looking at quotes, I had a nice chuckle at Allianz who quoted me $3800, most were around the $1500 mark, RAA was one of the cheapest at $1200. I will point out this is insuring for business use so I'm not sure what I would be paying for consumer insurance, but the online quotes to get an idea to begin with were all over $1000. I can't believe that some people pay under $500!

That being said, I've been driving 12 years, one claim and I'm probably paying for all the soccer mums who can't drive a 4wd and constantly make claims for their car park dings - I'm pretty sure that's the category the insurance companies put me in... !

I've been with AAMI for years, and had to make a couple of claims (4 kids with cars) and they have been fantastic.
I pay nearly double what davy has mentioned for my now 8 year old 120...... but location plays a big part in your premiums,....thats the penalty I pay for living in the suburbs of Sydney (not)

I'm happy with the Toyota finance I got when we brought the Playdo, policy seems to cover all the things we do to it and no problems adding the bits and pieces as they get added to the vehicle, but here is the rub, never having had to claim has anyone had good bad or indifferent experiences with them?
