Whats your pick of Camper/tent trailers?

We got a good deal from some friends who were upgrading to a caravan.

They have used it only 3 times.

There are so many different types on the market.
The reason that is is because no one has made the perfect one yet.
I dont even know if its possible to make the perfect one.
We have a challenge meridian.(top of range with extras)
We love it and it does us at the moment perfectly.
Maybe when the kids no longer want to come with us it might be too big.
Its extra long and extra wide.

We had no problems towing it. 3000TD manual (not D4D).
Yes we do drop back to 4th and pre-empt the gravity on the hills with a bit of early throttle. But 5th is really an overdrive gear so not really designed to load up excessively.
We have taken it over sand (Yeagerup Dunes) ( Shark bay) fully loaded.


high ways, salt pans,

gibbers,


rock trails.

Mud

Have a look at myswag.org. Its a great site for CTs and is full of great info and banter. It is setup like this site.

My All Terrain weighs in at 960 kg and is rated to 1500kg. As far as the kitchen goes, when I first opened her up my better half looked at the kitchen and laughed (she is 5 foot 2" dripping wet) and said I would have to do all of the cooking because she couldn't reach the kitchen.

When I levelled the trailer up, there is no problem with her reaching the stove and sink so now the shoe is back on the foot where it came from :lol:

Ride height needs some sorting out because the standard Prado suspension sits the trailer too low down on the towbar but that will be sorted once I get a bit taller trailer connection and better suspension, it did tow perfectly though.

Good to hear the pickup went well. Unit looks good.
Forget the PRado suspension mate, you should be testing out the campers suspension to al those 'bumps' :lol: :lol:

Time to start arranging the 2008 meet up with our campers?

finally worked out the photo-thing!

Best thing we have found for the family.
Over night stops sets up in abut 10min and the kids are in bed.
Our best morning departure was 15mins Gregory NP, included a cup of coffee.

We have a Quality Camper, it was cheap and is a bit rough around the edges but it has more than proven itself.

In its basic form its definately only a four seater at best, my 14 year old son is 6'2" so his size 13 shoes take up a lot of room and as a result my 12 year old daughter actually prefers to sleep in a small two man tent which means we now have some real room on the floor.

I know they do annexes, not sure how much extra they cost but I still think it would be a cheaper option than some of the more up market larger models.

Dont expect the Taj Mahal though, its basic but it works.

I agree entirely, but it seems some people will accept nothing but the best. Mind you if you can afford the best, then half your luck. :P

Like I said earlier, I cant justify spending loads of money on a camper trailer when ultimately it will spend most of its life sitting in the back yard waiting for me to retire. :wink:

I have never slept so well camping as I do when we take the trailer out and the best part is that I know my kids really appreciate the places we've been to.

Most of their mates have the latest Playstation 3 games and are on a mobile phone plan etc, but my kids have climbed Ayres Rock, been to Fraser Island, travelled the Ghan track and are always keenly awaiting our next trip away.

Mind you, they would still like the latest Playstation 3 game and arent happy about being on a pre paid. :cry:
