iPhone 5

Given that I own an old Nokia phone better suited to a museum rather than my pocket, I thought it was about time I upgraded to a smartphone.

I like the iPhone 4S so with baited breath I awaited the launch of the iPhone 5, although now that its here (so to speak) I am not overly impressed.

I think the elongated size and the change in connection plug size (now requiring adaptors for older style docks and connection cables) has turned me off, and now I am leaning more towards a Samsung Galaxy, either SII or SIII.

Thoughts from others?

Agreed, I'd take advantage of the price drop on iPhone 4s or get the S3 depending on your preference of OS though if size of the iPhone 5 is one of your biggest turn-offs then why would you get the S3 when it is bigger in every dimension? While, the iPhone 5 is longer than the 4s it is also thinner and lighter than both the 4s and the S3.

For what it's worth, I have the Samsung S3 and am very happy with it, traded up from the HTC Desire a couple of months ago and the change was reasonably painless. Yes it is big, but it is not a problem, it fits into the pocket fine, is very thin, heaps of apps (more than I will ever be able to learn to use), battery will last all day. Got a good handsfree cradle in the Prado that fits in well.

I've got the Galaxy S2 and i love it. I thought it was much better than the iPhone 3GS. Haven' used the Galaxy S3 so i don't know how it compares.

I'm the opposite. Having used a Blackberry, Galaxy S2 and iPhone 4S, much prefer the iPhone.

I had an iphone and now have a Galaxy Nexus, prefer the new Nexus with Android 4.1.

I would say, iphone is a great piece of kit but iTunes absolutely stinks!
I would not go with ANY Android phone unless it has Jelly Bean 4.1 android, works much better with better battery life.

My Pick, S3 with Android (must be 4.1) over Apple simply due to iTunes.
BUT!!! I would look at the new Nokia Lumia 920, lovely looking phone......but what will Microsoft phone 8 be like??

I]ll put my two bobs worth in. I have an I-Phone 4s and the missus has the HTC 1XL. I (and obviously her, as she is always pinching the thing of me) find the I-Phone alot easier to drive and find your way around. If taking pics, the HTC pisses all over the 4s for quality of pics and options

The new Nokia phone with Windows 8 should be good, but not many people have had a good look. One of my computer suppliers at work has been playing the Windows 8 tablets and at their company everyone has dumped their ipads for these Windows 8 tablets. An indication of how they find the new system.

smakb, that's a natural - if they can make a margin out of win8 tablets, and not iPads, which would you expect them to recommend? Not saying the win tablets aren't any good, they should be by now. Didn't Bill Gates proclaim them to be the future a few years ago? Apple was listening and now everybody seems to be in catch up mode.

Have they fixed windows phone yet? I've still got scars from my last encounter.

Spoiled for choice on phones now, aren't we?

Well I've had iPhones for a while now and was always a Nokia bloke before that! I swore I'd never have an iPhone but after having now had 2 ( current one a 4s ) I'd never go to anything else!!

I've ordered my iPhone 5 already and will be delivered on my birthday so a nice pressie for me, however, I am pissed at the fact the charger is different , but they will bring out an adapter I'm sure and as for the size of the new one it doesn't bother me so much as it is lighter.

Just my opinion obviously :-)

Ordered the new iPhone5. Should get here in a few weeks. This will be my fourth iPhone and it does everything I need it too. The new panoramic feature on the iPhone5 looks awesome and yes it is slightly taller, but it is also thinner and lighter too with better speakers, better and larger display and with ios6 should be a better product to use. Can't wait for it to get here.

If you ask 500 different people, you will get 500 opinions. My advice is to try out each one at a store, look for the features that you would want to use and decide for yourself. One thing to me that is important, is that all apps of the iphone goes via itunes and therefore you will not get virusses, unlike for android. Personally, I think not many people that have crossed over to the iphone, will ever use anything else.
