The more remote communities having been paying over the 2 dollar mark for ages. Wiluna was recently $1.96 when 500km away in Kalgoorlie it was only $1.54. We're going up the Great Central Rd (GCR) next week - will let you know which organs you will need to sacrifice in order to afford the fuel bill. Fortunately my fuel bill is paid by the state government.Dave

Or how about the fantastic Nanutarra Roadhouse. Most expensive fuel heading north. You know your getting pissed on when they also try and charge $5.50 for a scoop of instant coffee! The have people by the balls when they need fuel so they charge whatever they want. And if you ever have to stop make sure you have 2 filters.....trust me on that oneOriginally posted by Bushbasher View PostThat's still cheaper than that other major tourist attraction - WILUNA!

Ahh, Wiluna. My first memories of that place were rolling in with the work GU Patrol on my first day of work and seeing a bloke fill up a can of fuel. Next minute he was inhaling the contents. Worst part, the Patrol then refused to start again, common occurrence, which brought the attention of our incapacitated mate.Originally posted by Bushbasher View PostThat's still cheaper than that other major tourist attraction - WILUNA!
When I first started working the goldfields I was based in Leinster and worked the Nickle and gold mines up and down that strip of the goldfields highway from Leonora, out to Laverton, cosmos, cliffs, and up to Wiluna/Bondini and Meekatharra. We had a contract with homeswest which brought a lot of interesting work and situations, most forgettable. You could always tell where the tennant was by following the empty export cans.
Anyway, yeah Wiluna was always pricey for fuel.

When I did the trip up to Cape York last year, the most expensive unleaded fuel on the trip was the BP at Seisia. It was $2.24 a litre at the time. The cashier joked when he presented the receipt and called it a show & tell receipt! Because you take it home and show your friends and everybody has a laugh. The majority of the fuel in the Cape is $1.99/L.
But the most expensive fuel I've personally ever seen was at Eurong on Fraser Island at $2.52/L for unleaded a few years ago. When I regularly went a few years ago it was consistently between $2.20 & $2.30/L for unleaded. I think it may be a bit cheaper now though at $2.10 approx. The rules for taking a vehicle on the island are that you're not to carry more than 50L of fuel in jerry cans per vehicle. Beside the fact that you're a mobile bomb carrying that much in jerry cans in the event of an accident (and there are heaps of accidents on the island), I really think that they want you to purchase fuel on the island during your stay. On my first two trips to Fraser in the early 2000's I bought fuel on the island, but never again. I had no choice at the time due to a sucky single fuel tank 4wd. I now go on the island carrying 210L of fuel and I'm able to get back to my driveway after a week on the island without needing to re-fill.Last edited by Brett1979; 28-02-2013, 08:50 PM.2005 120 series V6 Grande, 2 inch susp lift (King/EFS combo), 32 inch MT’s, Safari Snorkel, rear diff lock, breathers, Light Force spotlights, UHF, dual batteries.

What really peeves me is how we always hear that high fuel prices in Oz are a result of our strong dollar and world oil prices. Someone please explain then how it is that when our dollar weakens (as it has done recently) and oil can drop by $30 dollars a barrel fuel prices stay the same. Currently $1.55 / l in Mackay for unleaded. Hurts like hell putting 180 l in to fill both tanks for a weekend away.Barney 1587

I thought Darwin got cheap fuel via Singapore? We ride the peaks and troughs here in Kalgoorlie with a fairly steady price. Diesel under $1.60/litre. Premium ULP was $1.65 when I gassed up the Cobra on Friday.Dave

A thing of the past as far as I can tell. I can't remember the last time I saw cheap Tuesdays, etc. At the end of the day, the suppliers have us over a barrel. People will fuel their cars when the tank is empty. Public transport isn't an option for many and its kept that way.Originally posted by winniliss View PostDon't you guys down south have discount days or price cycles like they do in Melb and Bris?
