Yes, Polling Officials (the ones who work inside the polling booth) get paid. The people handing out how to vote cards out the front are not polling officials, they are party volunteers. It's a hard day's work for the money though, you get paid a flat rate for the day, not how many hours you work. I started at 6:30 am Saturday morning and finished at 11:00 pm. There were websites you could use to create your own "how to vote card" for the senate with all the numbers filled in. There were people bringing in their templates so I guess for them it would have been relatively quick. It was hilarious watching people's faces when I pulled the senate papers out of the pile. I think my arms are now 6 inches longer too.Comment

Not too bad actually, even after a 15 hr day on Saturday (I did get to sit for most of it though). It's not so much the back that bothers me at the moment as the numbness in my toes, that still hasn't resolved.
