Make sure everybody knows how the tent folds away!! That way you won't get stuck doing it yourself. Like someone I know's recent camping trip........

      Re: Tip for Campers!

We're always learning new things when camping, what will we learn this weekend???

Friends of our showed us how to fold up the tent fly while it was still laying on the tent, this way it doesn't drag on the ground. When it comes to the next trip just unfold it in reverse.

Always pack more than one mallet (1 mallet + 4 kids = no peace)

We always go camping with friends, the last lesson was take a spare set of car keys and give it to your camping buddies, saves an unexpected trip home (luckily he didn't need to break into the house either ops: )

Don't tie the dog to the toe ball of the car (We had a long rope tied between a tree and the car, she could move freely up and down the rope on her lead, but we forgot about the other end of the rope being tied to the car and went to move the car ops: ops: she was OK, she was nowhere near the car).

      Love the boil-in-the-bag idea.

Heres another tip for campers. If you are carrying UHT milk and tinned food in a trailer, make sure they are in different containers.

Heres a pic of our UHT milk and tinned food after travelling together along the old Ghan track in leaf sprung trailer.

Each time we opened a can after this it was a lucky dip, but accidentally opening some ricecream felt like you'd won the lottery.
When packing your tins of food, take 5 minutes to write the contents of each tin on the top with a permaent black artline pen. Then you win the lottery every time you open the correct tin.

Also makes selecting the right tin easy when they are tightly packed and you cant clearly see the labels.

                    1. Stuff the hard soap, use the softsoap, doesn't get ash covered etc etc
                    2. A friend took his dog camping on his honeymoon (& his wife  ) but someone took all the labels off...then it was lucky dip to get human food

                    Tips from me:
If it's a hot day, the best place for the fridge is right under the camper trailer - believe it or not, with the tent on top and the trailer, the air circulating underneath makes it heaps cooler as well - also a great place for an afternoon nap.

Most of us probably do the odd bit of fishing...most fish can see in UltraViolet - we can't. For years we've been putting lures down which don't interest the fish. Find someone who makes lures with UV reflective (not flourescent) nylon in them. They also polarize light - get them on the right angle and the fish will leap at them. I'm not a fishing buff but I'm working on this for a photography project at uni. Natural baits often reflect UV too funnily enough.

NEVER bring kids technology to play with while you're camping, in the car yeah, ok, sometimes it helps but at camp make them enjoy the outdoors - they'll love you for it.

I agree 8) Once your out there you don't need to make them they go, they just go (We take the little ones (7&9) bikes as well). +4 enjoy looking at the stars - trying to see satellites is a good one - keeps them occupied for a good hour before sleep time, exploring the campsite during the day and night, meeting other kids, climbing tree's, accidentally getting wet in the stream  - that would be the youngest and the dog.

Take coloring books and pencils etc, board games, a deck of cards. Glow sticks for night time adventures are fantastic - hopeless for playing spotlight though

                      Happy Camping

Here is a tip i picked up a few years ago, we call it a cockle warmer, You know when you are sitting around the campfire on a cold night and the front of you is hot as hell and your back is freezing cold or all of you is cold because the group is to big to get close enough to the fire. well get your shovel and place a small amount of hot coles directly under your chair, be careful you dont need to many, this is the best heater you could possibly imagine. in fact if you wait until the next time the missus is complaining about the cold and bring this one out you will be forgiven for all your past sins, or at least until the effect of the hot coals wears off!!

Keep the rifle and spotlight handy.

After the missus has done her "number twos" and not burnt the dunny paper (she normally only puts a couple of rocks on her business) - sooner or later wild dogs will come into the campsite and dig up the lot and leave toilet paper strewn all over the place.

That's when I spring the ambush and blam! She gets a fright and I say well if you did the right thing when doing your business then I wouldn't have to resort to shooting the bastards.

p.s. - there's toilet paper all along our national highways and right next to points of interest and tourist sites everywhere. I know people have to go when they gotta go but for heaven's sake - bury the stuff!
