The only car that Toyota produce in AUS is the Camry . A vehicle that is mainly bought for sales reps or by retirees . Good car but not what Aussies want . We can't blame Abbott for the closures of manufacturing in this country . Manufacturing can't survive when the workers are earning more money than some professional careers .neither can they survive when having to fork out for 6 months or weeks maternity or paternity leave plus all the loadings and holidays we insist on . In case people think its only happening in manufacturing , it's been happening in the building industry for years , with cheaper imported workers .

The previous Government is responsible for a lot of what is now happening. They sold of public infrastructure, got into bed with the extreme Greens, allowed taxes, rego's, insurance's etc ..... to sky rocket, effectively forcing the cost of living to what it is now. Workers are seeking higher wages just to keep their heads above water. Loosing car manufacturing is just the start. I see a depression/recession coming to this country that will cripple us.I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints!

If Tony gets his act together he should be able to come up with an idea and not simply an ideology to keep the country solvent. He seems to know how to shut down industry but no idea on what comes next.
I dont know what to do, thats why we have leaders. Perhaps we need better leaders.

Then buy some cheap Kia or Hyundai, because well easy come easy go, blew most of the cash each week on crap so couldn't see the value in affording a decent vehicle.
We have a Camry in the garage! Before that I have owned dozens of falcons.
Most people don't know how good these camrys & think they don't want or need one $26990 driveway? Bargain! I'm not going on about why they are so good. Just go get your Kia or something, everyone else is.
Go on Aussie, keep asking for more money & doing your job slowly......
What a waste of all that cash our stupid governments threw at these huge multinational companies.......
Piss poor management by ALL!!! Like usual.
Sook over! :-)Last edited by Anth120playdo; 11-02-2014, 07:49 AM.

Given us Prado owners drive Japanese made cars we can hardly complain. I feel for the workers and their families though, thousands of new jobs don't just magically appear overnight.
I echo your words Fido. If the govt loses this now redundant tax itwill replace it with an appropriately worded one such as "The Australian manufacturing "rebalancing" or "new initiative" tax" or better still LEVY!They will collect say $500 per vehicle on the 1,000,000 new vehicles sold every year giving 1/2 billion per annum. As is always the case it will go to consolidated revenue and 5 mill will be allocated out EVERY year to assistance in new manufacturing ventures!!!!! that will employ 8 new workers!!!!!! PER ANNUM.
The balance will replace that stupid mining tax and Carbon tax

In fact the Lux is a great product. Guess it really means who is in control of what happens in said country.Bitumen: A blatant waste of taxpayers money!

The blame here lies squarely on greedy unionists, not on the government.
My father was the floor manager of a business many years ago in western Sydney, kept the union out of the business, made sure that everyone received decent wages and the business made good money. Once he eventually left to set up his own business, the union moved in and the business eventually folded.

Not sure about the side by side manufacturing talk?
An example of side by side would be bt50 & ranger, they are manufactured side by side as the are mostly the same.Originally posted by MidLifeCrisis View PostWell I cannot complain about Thai supplied Hilux washer jets or bonnet scoops

"As the Productivity Commission made clear in its position paper, the country’s tiny market couldn’t sustain competitive production of commodity autos, and was being monstered by the explosion of Asian auto production in the past decade.
But the culture of the workplace was clearly a material reason for the company’s decision to pull out in 2017."

The cost of living keeps spiraling up, so the unions chase more money for the workers. So it goes on - a dog chasing its tail. I believe the 'Free Trade Agreements' also have a lot to do with it. We have just signed one with Korea and Japan is on the cards next. Just wait till we sign one with China!!!. Then we will see whats left of our manufacturing industries go to the wall.
Dobinsons suspensions in Rocky have been complaining for quite some time now the price of eletricity is killing them and they are looking at going oversea's.
Not a bright future.Politicians And Nappies Should Be Changed Often - And For The Same Reason.

I can see a time in the very near future where nothing of any consequence will be manufactured here.
There still has to be some stuff, like Building Trusses and the like, but mark my words everything else will be imported.

Sorry all,
I did not mean to infer that Tony caused the problems of industry in general but he has the "mandate" to fix the problems. Tony has not been there for long enough to cause anything to happen yet, he has to wait until July I think.
Canberra in general seems to have no ideas on the problem. All parties are elected to Lead Us, not just the bunny who becomes Prime Minister on any particular day.
