So the fridge is now on a truck to Waeco HQ for inspection, and he reckons that I'll probably get a new replacement fridge in a week or two.
At least the warranty seems to be ok!
Shall let forum know what transpires.
Out of curiosity, how old was the fridge?
    Bought March 2008.
Latest model at the time CF50 VERB.
Copped some serious corrugations bumps holes ruts in June on Cordillo Downs "road"(if you could call it that - rough as guts), followed by Simpson crossing.
Other Waeco on trip has no problems.

i have a 80l engel and it runs like a champ and can drop temp to minus 25 for freezing...

        bloody terrific piece of work...

i went with engel because when shopping around all the waeco had broken hinges and plastic....besides the seal on the engel is way superior and i didnt like the way the lid just pulled off waeco
though they are still a great fridge...

I am an Engel fan... although the new ARB fridge might be a worth a second look (I think they're made to ARB's specs by Waeco).

With standard (read thin) rear wiring on 12v (but with the controls cranked up) without a dual battery setup we will freeze our milk in the main fridge section of our Engel and will freeze the white wine in the freezer section if not careful (we did so this weekend)

                We have the 80L combi.

It's a tall unit which is good for 1.5 litre plastic milk bottles and wine bottles standing up but not so good for seeing everything that's in it - particularly if you don't have a fridge slide.

That's a Bl@@dy good price for the Waeco CF50 - probably because they now have the CF50 dual zone fridge and freezer to supersede it.

Sorry if it has been mentioned before or not and I am unwilling to go back through 11 pages of posts, but I saw a 40L???? fridge in Kmart (yead I know  ) that was I think the Jackaroo brand and it had 12V, 240V and gas. From memory I think 1kg of gas would provide 3 days of running. Price around the high $400.00 mark. Don't know much else sorry as the handbrake and kids were getting boisterous.

I know you get what you pay for but I wonder how they would go for general camping NOTE not desert crossings.

Intresting test last night, we had the power fail for about 2 hours, temp in garage was 39 (43 degree day) it took all of half an hour for the CF50 in bag to get to 10 degrees, enough to spoil food if you were in the bush and your battery failed.

The Engel would not be any quicker!
I did a comparo of a no name brand fridge against a 40 ltr Engle and recorded temperatures and current draw. It took half an hour for the Engel to reach 9.9 c on a 25c day.

I'm having intermittent probs with the Waeco CF50, error light coming on after a few seconds of running. Not all the time, and i have checked the battery(ies), all good. It seems to be only on 12v, runs like a dream on 240v.

Did a Google on "Waeco problems" and found this thread from the Australian 4WD Action Online Forum.

Seems i'm not alone, and some really good info on here, worth a read if your Waeco is doing the same.
