  • The other car in your life

Princess is due for a new car in November and I'm currently struggling with the reality that the Prado is now becoming less of a daily driver due to the mods and kit and that i may need to 'share' a car with my better half. Her expectation is another soft Euro SUV to replace our Volvo XC60 but I would like something a little more capable to somewhat complement the Prado. We're most likely to contribute to over-populating the planet in the next 12months so the new ride needs to be baby-friendly - rules out a new 200 series with 5" lift unfortunately.

Interested to hear what others do car-wise when the Prado becomes too much of a compromise for a daily commuter / family bus.

    cheers

We have a Honda Jazz. 1 car is big, thirsty, goes anywhere, can toe stuff and has lots of room. The other is small, fits in ya pocket, economical, great daily driver, handles well and with the magic seats fits surprisingly a lot of stuff. They complement each other.
2007 GXL V6 - ARB Bullbar with LED lights, snorkel, extractors, 2 1/4" dual exhaust, K&N filter, dimpled/slotted rotors, headrest dvd players, Ebay Satnav/reverse camera, GME 3100TX, Tigerz11 Side awning on custom brackets with Maxtrax mounts, 300W Invertor, ARB Underbody protection, Lightbar and STZ 265/70 tyres.
Wish list in order I'll get them: Sliders, 2" lift, E-locker, Winch bar with winch.

Ford Fiesta. But with three kids under 7 in car seats/boosters it's too small to fit us all in. Will be different when#1 turns 7 and can get out of the seat. It's easy to live with around town. Parking is a breeze

Just got a notice that it's trick 6spd dual clutch transmission has had it's warranty extended to 5 years/160,000 as part of a customer satisfaction programme because they exhibit excessive clutch shudder due to leaking seals.

We've already had this done and the auto software remapped. Shudder has gone but fuel economy has risen from 6.7/100 to 8/100. Or that could be just be my driving

The Prado is our my daily commute vehicle (novated lease) and out weekend family car - we also have a TDCI MA Mondeo.

They are nearly as big as a falcon, more boot room than a commodore and a dream to drive on the odd break from the manual Prado.

Got 2 kids (18m and 3.5y) in car seats and can still squeeze someone in between the two car seats (depends on how big your kids seats are).

I can get the consumption down to 5.9 l/100, but the Mrs normally maintains 7 with all the stop start kindy / daycar / shopping runs etc.

I think we'll end up upgrading the Mondeo to a newer model in a few years time (most likely wagon instead)

Looking at purchasing a second car as we have realised this as well. Plus, we've just had a baby so I want something smaller and more fuel efficient for shopping trips for the wife.
Currently looking at a Mazda 6 that we'll probably buy. Was also looking at Subaru Impreza's and Liberties.

Ford Fiesta for me too as a daily driver, simply due to all the mods it doesn't really make the prado a practical daily, especially when I usually do 1000kms a week.

I am a part time single dad so when i have the boy i do find it a little too small, but i can't complain when I get 4L/100kms

I was looking for a daily driver to commute to work in. I liked the Hyundai i30's and test drove all of them auto, manual, petrol, diesel... and was ready to pull the trigger on the diesel auto, when the missus made me take a Lancer out for a spin. I just couldn't walk away from the CVT box on the Lancer, and we bought it the same day.
