        Mrs has a Rav, which we use a lot, I have a Rodeo Ute for work purposes, Moto Guzzi California (motorbike) for fun on 2 wheels and hope in the next few years to build one of these below!

                  Aren't those self builds a nightmare with all the hoop jumping for the ADR's?

                    Probably. The one I am looking at is based on a Citroen 2CV, so think of the rules as being more in line with a hot rod than a new build.

                      Actually, as far as ADRs go, AJ being in SA probably has the easiest task. Many component or owner built cars only have to demonstrate the intention to comply. Some areas are cast in stone, such as exhaust emission. Build a car in 2014 and you basically can use a motor from a 2014 car (Ford/Holden) and you instantly comply with the emissions ADR as long as the motor isn't modified. Chuck in LPG and you can do a heap. Build a hot rod and there are lots of allowances. Some manufacturers of kit cars will use a donor car. There's a Shelby replica that uses a Falcon XR8 donor. Use a late model wreck and build your-self a cool looking sports car with full ADR compliance and airbags and ABS brakes.

                          All I know is that building a hot-rod, either using an original chassis - 1920 - 1940 sort of thing, or a reproduction hot rod, the rules are very easy and generous. Get in touch with a local club or hot rod seller/manufacturer.

                                Always wanted to own one. Feel I never will, so thought about attempting a kit car when I lived in the UK. Friends brother built one based on a Ford Escort chassis with an old Rover 3600 V8. Didn't think I would be able to when we moved here because of the stupid restrictions..
