What happened to the motto of "Take nothing but photos leave nothing but footprints" ??

After admitting to removing an artifact from a ruin, I hope you are now going to take it back for others to enjoy ??

"Please note that this district is an historical area, it is an offence to remove any artifacts or relics, including built heritage, industrial heritage, relics and ruins and also any other site(s) that can be considered of historical importance to Australia."

Penalties for heritage infringements range up to $550,000 at a commonwealth level. On a state level, penalties for breaches range up to fines of $100,000 or 7 years imprisonment.

Just another reason to lock up another track ......

I'm not sure how long it had layed out there but someone had gone to the trouble of adding a wire handle to it. I never realised they had expiry dates back in 1939!

The can - about 10cm tall.

If you look carefully you can see the expiry date Jul 7 1939

      I agree Spurio.

Rainman I can see the temptation to pick up a souvenir and take it home but lets face it ... what are you going to do with a tin can with 1939 written on the bottom. There is not to much modern/european history out there so these things should be left for others.

Hmmm... difficult to justify this one I must admit. The can was found beside a windmill several hundred metres from the "ruins" amongst a large field of detritis that obviously hadnt stopped growing since 1939. In the same location were several empty Ted bottles and plastic coke bottles, but I take your point.

Is your artifacts quote specific to the area or is it something you used to reinforce your point in general? I'd be surprised if the area was heritage listed, but I guess you never know.

Theres nothing like the internet for making an arse of yourself in public is there? I guess as the saying goes, one mans trash is another mans treasure. Normally I take great pains to ensure we have minimal impact. ops:

          Rainman

I will give you full points for fronting up...

Most of us are guilty at some time or another of grabbing a souvyy along the way.... and you could argue if you didnt take it someone else would.
I guess its one of those things you dont admit to. My mum has a number of "artifacts" she collected during trips around the country...similar to your tin can, but I think I would tend to leave things like that alone for the next traveller.

It a tough one I admit. Thats why we have museums I guess, justifies taking stuff to put in them!!

Sorry there is no pic, but the other night (about a month ago) my wife and I were driving home about 10pm (completely sober). It was a beautiful moonlit night and as we live out of town, one of those nights when you can almost see as clearly as daylight. As I turned onto the dirt road near home, I thought I must have been seeing things. There was the most perfectly formed rainbow I have ever seen. It was huge, went from Pembrooke, across the Hastings River to Bago Mountain. Anyone knowing this area would understand that's a fair hike. There were no colours, just shades, but I could see the various shades. As all this is happening I was thinking furiously and then thought maybe I've lost the plot and best to say nothing so we don't have to drive back to town to find a shrink. Then my wife asked me if she was seeing things or whether I could see a rainbow (she isn't as paranoid about being scheduled as me). I then pulled over and we sat watching this thing and discussing it. I figured that if one end happened to finish in our paddock when we got home then we would be set for life as this was soooo weird it would have to be the one with the pot of gold. Anyway after pinching ourselves and each other, we were convinced it was a perfect rainbow (minus the colours) and off we headed, thrilled with a new experience. The looks and 'those' comments started next day when we told family and friends what we had seen. However we were convinced. I was just reading about Phil's Eureka Finalist achievment (congratulations) and this reminded me to do a search about night rainbows. Yes they do exist and some say on a really moonlit night colours can be seen. As someone who is red/green colourblind - and very confused about the remaining ones, my comments on colour are usually greeted with groans. I had thought maybe this time it was something to do with the colour-blindness and I was seeing shades, however my wife isn't and we sat there describing similar things as we watched it.
            Has anyone else seen this?
            Cheers

I wasn't aware of the option when I purchased my car but it seems it comes with Toyota's new BKRS technology.

That would be the Beanie Kid Restraint System. Seems the design team over at Toyota have been listening to their younger customers.

This could be one of two scenarios.
                1. This is the shrinkage factor from that dumpy that was covered in ice.

I had an experience today, which I can sort of laugh now, but at the time was not so funny.

Heading South on Old Coast Road dual carriageway towards Bunbury today in my work ute after a trip to the minesite. I was about 2 kms North of Binningup turn off, in the right hand lane slowly overtaking a car, just letting the cruise control do its thing.
Was yakking on the hands free kit, enjoying a comfortable trip in the sun, looked ahead and saw a car coming straight at me!!!!!!!!!!!Yikes

I had enough time to drop speed, and get into my left lane and let the car go by. I also had enough time to flash lights and give hand signals to old Grandpa as he drove by......

At Binningup turn off there are some road works happening, and they have mucked around with the intersection a bit. I guess he has got a bit muddled at all the orange witches hats and turned into wrong lane.

It wasnt that close, but something that hasnt happened to me before

BTW, ant WA PPers heading South, watch the roadworks in this area. My Plod has been sitting in there pinging anyone over the limit. And a lot of truck movements around the Desal plant turnoff just North of Binningup, and they seem to turn across traffic when they have had enough of waiting
                      Cheers
