Richo, the problem arises when he tells you the pros and cons of each hand piece and how he prefers the "x" model due to numerous factors..
      OR
When your smart daughter decides she likes a drop out who just happens to be the grandson of a New Zealander that started the Mongrel Mob (or whatever they are called).
Sometimes I think its just easier to go with the flow.......

              • I use to work at Bunnings in the Trade department and saw some funny stuff.

In terms of 'loading up the car', the funniest I saw was a bloke taking home 6m lengths of PVC pressure pipe using his Mazda MX5. He did it by putting one end in the passenger side footwell and then the rest of the pipe (like over 3m of it) just hung over the back. It almost flexed so much it was touching the ground (and probably did if he went over a bump)...

                • I find it reassuring that places like One Steel (at least the one nearish me) wont load illegally. I was picking up some steel one weekend with my ute and a couple of boys turned up and ordered about a tonne of box section, wanted it cut in half (leaving 4m lengths) and wanted to place this on a 6x4 box trailer. The guy at dispatch asked where their truck was and when they pointed to the Camry (oh yes) and box trailer he told them he would cut up the order when they had some way of getting it home. Conversely there are no controls most other places even though Bunnies do offer use of trailers.

                  • Without getting off track too much, its a difficult situation to manage if you start arguing with a customer what they can and can't take home, or how they decide to take it home.

One Steel take it to the other extreme though.

I tried to buy some aluminium sheets form them some time ago, I have a trailer that was more than adequate for the weight, I have a timber frame that I put on top for holding sheets, MDF, Steel, Whatever....... and then timbers to go on top that have been chanelled and the ends rounded for the ropes to sit in and not chafe. I would load up what I wanted and drive to Darwin and back a dozen times and it would not move a mm or cause an issue. After looking through 5 pages of regulations they decided as I had ropes and not ratchet straps they wouldn't sell it to me!

That is now about 10 grand in sales they have lost to me because they go over the top!

I agree though that some people are just stupid though, we get them at work all the time with an unbraked 6x4 trailer behind a shitbox and want us to load 1.5 tonne of material in, cause they aren't going far!

                      Cheers Andrew

                      • It's all to do with 'Chain of responsibility' regulations. They're afraid of someone leaving their yard with a load that then comes off on the way home and causes injury or death and they are then held partly responsible. If they don't have a hand in the loading, using a forklift etc, then they should be off the hook. But companies and their insurers are increasingly paranoid of litigation.

                          • “When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” - John Lennon.
