  • Re: "Spot the Spot"

Looks a bit like Kanangra Walls or part of the Gorge, I haven't been there for a while and don't remember so much vegetation on the cliffs.

      Getting closer...
Just a bit further north than Kanangra Boyd NP though Spurio, it's in the Blue Mountains NP.

We lived in the Blue Mountains for 3 years ... 30 odd years ago. From the moment you posted the picture I recognised it ... but will the memory work :?: Nooooooooooooooooooooooo :!: :!: In fact I think I took a picture of the exact view. Its not often I recognise spots; this is so frustating my teeth hurt :!:

Seems as though I've killed the thread!

I had better give another clue then. The location is near blackheath.

That sure would have been an interesting abseil  , but it's not in quite the right area, this is a few clicks north of grand canyon.

In an attempt to end it I will supply this 'cryptic' clue: "The brides veil leaped off the governor". :?:

Didn't kill it Jeff - not for me at least, you didn't ... yes, you are responsible for that knot in the stomach . And yes, I may need therapy :P But no need to give any more hints, surely someone can remember the name of the spot. I thought about searching thru my old photos, but that would be no help - when we were young we thought our memories would last forever and never labeled photos.

Referring your hint; the Bridal Veil Falls ... but that photo is not of the falls. I my memory serves me correctly, if you look down just below your photo you can see evidence of hundreds or thousands of years of eroding rock that sweeps away at the base of cliff and is now overgrown with dense scrub. But what I find really enthralling is that the pattern shape in the cliff is exactly as I remember it - I would have expected far more erosion over the years.

Or could this be Bridal Veil Falls - with low water flow, taken from Govett's leap?

                      Yep, That's it Bear

It's Bridal Veil falls at Govetts Leap. I can't remember the exact name of the lookout it's taken from, but the main Govetts Leap carpark/lookout is further around to the right out of the photo. You can see the path to the valley floor from that lookout in the bottom right of the photo, it zig-zags straight down the cliff-face. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to this spot from the carpark and you cross the stream to get there, as you can see it wasn't exactly flowing too strongly when I was there:

                      Your turn again Bear!
