  • Nespresso coffee machines - your recommendations?

Thinking of getting a nespresso or similar for home. I like hot steamed milk with my coffee or mocha, so either a quality steaming device along with the coffee machine would be good.

One that could take either the pods or ground coffee beans would be best, although I understand the pods are quite good.

Any recommendations from people with quality coffee machines at home?

Pods are actually not so good imho. Stick with beans, grinder and a coffee machine.

I have a nespresso, whilst quick and easy its not as good as beans. It depends on how picky you are about your coffee I guess. If you want quick and easy, go with the nespresso, if your after quality go with a proper expresso machine (although a decent one is worth plenty).

Remember Nespresso isn't the only brand or type on the market.
Look at the 44ESE pod machines.
If you're going to be locked into Nespresso, or Aldi or whoever for pod supplies, then finding a supplier for a machine and pods is worthwhile.

I have the fully automatic Nespresso Lattissima Plus. I press 1 button and out comes a latte. Best home investment ever!

I'm not locked on Nespresso. Anything that might make a good coffee. Happy to use beans instead of pods - but having the option for pods might be an advantage with the family/friends.

Like I said, I particular want one that makes good coffee and can properly steam milk.

By the Aldi one, great value for money and doesn't do a bad espresso. Pods are around the 34 cent mark as opposed to Nespresso ones which are 75 - 85 cents each. We bought one for our office and its more than adequate.

Yes, we have one of those, and it gets a good workout.

The benefit over other nespresso machines is quick cleanup. The milk container goes in the fridge and is ready for the next brew. We clean the milk container (pull it apart and put in dishwasher) once a week.

The Nespresso gives ~80% of the quality of a high end machine but the convenience kills anything else. No warm up, no grinding, no fiddling, no mess, no hassle.

The next best for convenience is the Aeropress.

The Latttissma plus is what we have at home. Pp has it pretty much spot on. We have a friend who is an Aldiaddict and his machine isn't quite up with it. You can get pods from others too so you aren't locked in to the Nespresso system. My wife wants me to get a bigger inverter so we can take it camping...

I've never had a great coffee from a pod machine. Passable to good but never great.

A family member has an aldi coffee machine - and the coffee that they make out of it is awful, but that could be the way they make the milk. Its never hot or frothed. But the Aldi machine does take the Woolworths home brand pods
My brother in law has a Nespresso and the coffee isn't too bad - I prefer it over the aldi one.

We've got an entry level bench top coffee make that takes beans and I prefer it any day over the pod machines. But the effort required is a little bit higher and there is a bit of a learning curve. TBH though from grinding beans through to having a coffee in your hand is only 2-3 minutes. You could shave a few seconds of time off by buying pre-ground coffee but starting with beans makes better coffee. Its the earlier model of this one: http://www.breville.com.au/cafe-vene...o-machine.html. It has a water tank rather than being plumbed in.

The other thing about the pod machines for me is the price of coffee:
                      Pods are around $40-50\kg
                      Coffee beans are $15-$30\kg

Both options are significantly cheaper than buying a coffee from a cafe, or maccas. Maybe not 7/11...

What I like about my Lattissima is after the warm up (about 30 seconds), I press a button and walk away. I can usually get most of my days food sorted by the time the coffee is ready. Clean-up is holding a button on the milk thingy, and possibly flushing out the coffee bit by pressing the "short black" button.

I can set up, make coffee and clean up quicker than the kettle can boil with 3 cups of water in it.

I have both the Latissima Plus and a Citiz with separate milk brother (Aerocino). The Latt+ is used at home and is great for the reasons mentioned above although I do find that I need to wash the milk container more than once a week or the milk tends to go off. We have about 6-10 cups of coffee per day between 3 people and the convenience is the main advantage although the coffee is pretty good; not as good as a great café brew but better than a lot of cafes I go to. The Citiz stays in our camper van and also makes a great coffee b ut you really need to wash the Aerocino after every coffee otherwise the milk scum burns to the non stick surface. This is great for the camper because I only make 1 or 2 at a time but for a dinner party it would be a pain in the bum.

I have a Saeco Magic Delux, had it for 10 years and never had an issue. Makes pretty good coffee (I double shot the coffee) and it froths pretty well (remove the stupid froth enhancer device and do it properly).

Not a cheap machine but a good long term purchase.
