  • Trick or Treat - well, actually the whole Halloween thing. It's just stupid American commercialism.

We live in Australia not America!

Yep, I'm not even answering my doorbell tonight. We did it last year and it cost us about $30 in lollies. When you see them pulling up in cars (driven by parents I hasten to add) you have to think just how far away are these kids coming from? And then there's 13, 14, & 15 year old kids coming on their own, not even shepherding the littlies, it's a bit rich.

We never answer the door on Halloween evening - we just let our German Shepherd go potty barking at the door. That tends to frighten them off

I remember the first year that someone tried it with me - I'd never heard of it before. I answered the door and was greeted by a group of kids saying 'Trick or Treat' to which I had to say "What are you talking about?". They acted like I was stupid or something.

        • It's for the kids and just a bit of fun for them to dress up. Must say I agree with Fido some of them you do wonder how the parents let them go door knocking them selves. Our 5 year old doesn't go out of the street and luckily we live in a deadend and everybody knows everybody but she certainly still doesn't go by her self..... Cheers Steve

          • Party poopers. Let the kids have some fun. It may be a load of shoit, but I remember when I was a litte shit & a mate used to get me to go every year, we absolutely cleaned up! Better than, the show, Easter & Christmas :-)
That's why I'm so fat still now.
Now some smartasses gave us apples or oranges, so try that on the teenagers see how they like a Kiwi fruit, avocado or cucumber...... LMFAO.
            Happy up people.

              • Yeah Steve if I had kids I'd understand about the dress-up element. I've just had at least 3 lots pile out of cars and run up and down the street, then they pile back in and drive off. These aren't local kids as I know most of them and the parents are usually on-foot with them.

Last year we made up lolly bags but some kids were greedy and tried to grab more than one, others complained we didn't have the lollies they liked LOL.

                • Apparently there are now protocols. Kids under nine must be accompanied by a parent. Lollies must be commercially wrapped, no loose gummy bears or whatever allowed.

We gave the kids muesli bars one year, was all we had in the house LOL. If it was just a few local kids I'd be all for it #### but we seem to have half the suburb out tonight, we're on a bit of a main road here.

Last year and the year before one of the local parents put a balloon and note in the letterboxes in our part of the street and you were supposed to hang out the balloon if you were happy to participate, they didn't do it this year. I'd almost forgotten about it till Mr Fido came home and told me the kids were out in the street.

I'll offer them peanut brittle just to see who's not allergic.

After working in a shop all day it's the last thing I want to do. Maybe next year, the celery idea is a hoot.

                          • Last year we had groups driving and running around chucking eggs at houses and the other little kiddies on foot.

                            • Isn't it trick or treat? Forget the treats and go with the tricks

Has anyone ever heard Wes Harrison and his Halloween story, he knew about tricks!

Living out here in the sticks is great, we have never have kids visiting us on Halloween.

                              Cheers Andrew

You never get visitors anytime do you? That's why you're always away on holidays or attending GTGs. Bit like me.
