          • Old nurses passed retirement age. Our youngest daughter is currently in hospital for the good old appendix (I'm typing this from the hospital room) After several hours in emergency (private hospital!) a nurse waltzes, gives my daughter a shove to wake her up (16years old) and tells her to get up she is being moved... She was expected to walk to her new ward! Poor kid had to be carried in my arms to the ward because she couldn't walk.

            • I would have given her a slight nudge RanJ as you were picking your daughter up, ""oops sorry love didn't see you there"" sorry. Must say I know a few nurses who absolutely love their jobs and wouldn't treat a patient like that...Hope she has a speedy recovery......Cheers Steve

Sorry to hear iof your daughter's poor treatment but please remember nurses have bad days too! If you saw how some nurses get treated by some patients you would be shocked. Perhaps the patient she saw before your daughter was an impossible a$$€<|}.
My advice is don't be afraid to speak up if you feel you are not getting treated fairly or respectfully. Just do it politely and assertively. If you still get no joy, ask to speak to the Nurse Unit Manager. Most nurses do an amazing job under often extreme conditions. They don't always get it right, but I won't be the first to throw stones.
                Cheers.

Geeze Ran. HTFU. When I was a lad we didn't have nurses and beds. We had to cut our own exploded appendix out and clean the area down with half a bottle of rum. The first half was all we had as a sedative. Then we were back at work the next day.

I'm grateful though, in my old mans day they didn't have rum.....

PS, the old biatch would have copped some wrath from me and probably the need to call a doctor to remove the stethoscope from her rectum.

                  • I can ertainly understand a nurse having rough treatment. My sister tells me about her treatment, but you can't take it out on a 16yo girl in agony.

Kiddo doing well. Thanks a guys and MLC

Honoured that you saw fit to distinguish me from the other riff raff.

Just a quick tip on protocol though, it should be:

"The Honourable MLC, ladies and gents."

Its ok though, I have attributed your innocent slip up to inexperience and other things on your mind.

PS Good to hear re the kiddo. When she makes a full recovery I hear they are selling well in some African countries. As I have two fine specimens, I am considering selling one as an option to finance a vehicle upgrade.

mlc - no boundaries on bad humour and now faced with a dilemma of which one to sell.

Sorry to hear about your daughter's experience, that nurse must have been having a bad day. Glad to hear your daughter is recovering, hope the offending appendix is now history. It seems rather odd that your daughter wasn't moved on a trolley from the ED to a ward, when my appendix went I went straight from the ED to theatre and woke up in a ward. I have never had a bad experience with hospital nurses except the one who took 3 goes at putting a canula in my hand then had to call the senior nurse, you should have seen the bruises I ended up with! Nurses for the most part are very dedicated, it's a job I know I couldn't do. My niece spends her shifts peeling skin off burns victims, now that's dedication!

Nurses are like any of us. Some nice ones, some not so nice. They have good days, and bad. During our last trip to hospital, all were lovely, apart from one who we just referred to as 'Sourpuss'.

Sincererly hope she was just having an off day and isn't like that all the time. Still, for the price you pay in a private hospital I'd have expected gold plated wheelchairs and a free massage with every room move.

                          • Yea fido I for one would never be able to handle burns. I cringe at the thought of any one getting burnt even a simple steam burn from a jug. I take my hat off to these people and the ambo's certainly a job for certain people and I'm not one of them and to out up with some of the shit they cop no thank you.... Cheers Steve

The next service will be at 81,000km for the normal 1,000km check of a new motor! Following that, comparing service costs will be very difficult as the new motor and balance of car issues will be out of sync..... Without war and peace, the motor blowed up, the dealer warranty is being honoured with no fuss and I am extremely grateful for the professional service received. Kind of lucky really because my lawyers are also lawyers for the dealer, and the dealer is a bigger client than me.....
Lets not gloss over this with warm fuzzy comments about RanJ's daughter (hope she is ok though!), tell us what happened Honourable MLC!!

How did the motor 'blowed' up? What did you do this time???

                              • Well we are still waiting in what they call short term stay ward... I'm trying to figure out why I spend all this money in a month and my daughter is currently sharing a room with 3 blokes. Not exactly keen. But such is life! When we came in here to this ward at 3am this morning there were no chairs for me to sit on. I didn't complain I just grabbed an unused chair and sat down. Soon enough sleep deprivation reared it's ugly head so I popped myself down on the carpet, rolled up my jacket and nodded off. I got woken up 30 minutes later as I wanted to put a canula in her hand but they were also kind enough to wheel in a trolley for me. I welcomed that.
