Take a glass half full approach. The young teachers are leaving work around that time. Being forced to slow to 40 allows one to stare longer and admire....

Although she might not quite still be in the "young" category, but the staff parties I get dragged along to aren't as bad as I make out

Petrol prices tipped to be close to a dollar by Christmas. Yeah, right. Yesterday, ULP was about $1.15. Today it's $1.33. And diesel has hardly budged and has stayed pretty constant around $1.34 - $1.39 for ages. Thieving rogues.

Up north in WA the kids go to school early and finish early to beat the heat. The only problem with that is that the school zones are rigged with signposts and illuminated speed signs that are generic to the rest of the state. Therefor, the kids are gone before the lower speed limit kicks in. The schools with the crossing attendants have to battle vehicles travelling at the usual limit. Crazy. And of course, drivers who know this will drive at the 40km/hr when the kids aren't there, won't they?

I try to avoid driving anywhere near schools at those times. It seems so many parents leave their brains behind when picking kids up from school or maybe they are allowed to stop where they like and aren't required to look or give way in those zones.

School zones that start at 7:00am.......

No one should be dropping their kids off at school at 7:00, if they do they should be in before school care and signed in, which means a patent walks them to the door.

School zones that finish at 4:00pm.......

All kids should be gone from school 15mins after finish, if not they should be in after school care and signed out, which means a parent collects them from the door.

Why on earth should I have to slow down to 40 in a 80 zone to go past a deserted school, what a joke. School zones should be 8:00am - 9:00am, 2:30pm - 3:30pm. I do beleive in school zones, they are a fair call, just not the ridicules hours they are for. And speeding in a school zone is just plain stupid

The doctors will tell you that it's their "creed" to save life. I reckon it's greed. It's all about getting the maximum dollars out of the dying. If they really cared then they'd supply the green dream like the vets do with your aged pets and let people die with dignity.

You're well into your nineties, you have cancer in your lungs, stomach and thyroid - all inoperable because of your age. You can't eat solid food and the puree they give you goes straight in one end and out the other. You can't walk so have to rely on others to take you to the toilet and help you shower. You can't sleep lying down because all the goo in your guts and lungs makes you choke so you spend all day and night sitting in a chair which results in sores on your back-side and your feet swell up. You can't really talk as your voice has dried up. The nurses are great but every-time you fall asleep they wake you in order to take your temperature and pulse and force panadol into you to "make you comfortable". You don't know what day of the week it is and really don't comprehend what plan the doctor has for your future. You simply want it all to end, now, peacefully. You've led a long and productive life, raised 3 good kids and have grand-children. But no, the doctors want to ensure you have quality of life so they prolong the agony. Your family love you to bits but are completely powerless to help you move on.

Dave..feel really sorry for you, it's really the last big massive taboo subject left to tackle isn't it, I mean the 'community' has tackled some biggies in the last few years such as same sex marriage. In some European countries it is legal and it's fast gaining traction elsewhere although good old Oz always seems to cling to it's Conservative past (above case). I just hope by the time I get there it will be legal, (with my kids consent if I'm non compos mentis)! Ive a European passport, Switzerland here I come...
