  • PradoPoint Site Upgrade

    Howdy all,

As I'm sure you have noticed the site has had an upgrade overnight.

It was necessary as the old version of phpBB was out of date and was becoming increasingly vulnerable to security issues.

We have upgraded to the latest release of phpBB3 which has lots of new features for us to administer the site as well as performance enhancements and additional anti-spam protection.

There is a post already started about the changes. So here's the scoop.

The install is the default, out of the box setup. There will be template modifications to make it more 'ours'. You will see these changes take place over the next few days as I find an hour here and there.

I hope you enjoy the new format and I'm sure you'll benefit from the upgrade.

If you find any 'bugs' please respond to this topic.

    Cheers,
    Aaron

Everyone will resist change but sometimes change is good. Might seem a little hard to get around but everyone appreciates the effort you make with the site Aaron. We can deal with this look until it can be personalised to the Prado Point look. Take all the time you need.

        Re: PradoPoint Site Upgrade

        Hi Aaron,

This is not so much a bug but a request if possible? I notice that there can now be usergroups, is it possible for forum members to make their own user groups? It would be handy to use this feature for trip planning purposes and sending out pm's to those that want to attend etc.

I guess my only real dislike at the moment is the blue colour but I know that this is just the default clour scheme. One thing I have noticed with the new PHP softwaare is that it works a lot better with the GTG website when accessing the forum through it. Now the recent post markers work as they should which did not happen before. I know that is not of much interest to you as such but it makes it nice for people like myself who use the GTG ebsite to run the forum through.

I have been experiencing some page time outs and being logged out occasionally and not able to automatically log in again. I have cured this once by clearing the cookie but it seems to re-occur.

        Cheers

          Re: PradoPoint Site Upgrade

Nice work Aaron and I totally appreciate all your efforts.

I realise there are going to be a few teething issues that will all get sorted in time.

In case others have not already noticed, tabbed browsing is difficult because each tab requires a separate login. This is using IE7.

UPDATE: Interestingly, after posting this reply my tabbed browsing is now keeping me logged in on each tab. A mystery, but is now working for me

UPDATE2: When opening a URL in a new tab, I regularly see "Connecting...", and it never connects. When I open the same URL within the same Tab, it opens every time.

UPDATE3: I wondered about all the new icons. I found this little icon legend that explained it for me.

          Cheers,
          LFaR.

            Hi Aaron,

Just a couple of things I've noticed. The search function is a bit how ya goin... Doesn't really work well for me at all using the search in the top right of screen (using a mac at the moment).

Also can we get some more/new smileys! Maybe some more cool animated ones?

            Cheers,

Same here. Tried clearing the board cookies, but it made no difference.

                Re: PradoPoint Site Upgrade

Must say, this works BEAUTIFULLY on my mac. Much better (obviously the looks and customization will come). But then, we all love doing that. Is it possible to condense all the top threads into just one or two? I know there's a lot there which needs to be read by newcomers but to be quite honest when I first came to PP, the fact that there was so much made me take a while to get to it. And I hate scrolling half way down the page to get to the current threads (General discussion page). Perhaps another "notices" page altogether and just put a new thread in the General page whenever something new goes up. Then that would go down in the history until another one(next important notice) came along. Just thoughts, and I realize the site has to work well for you guys. Thanks for your continued dedication to this. I know how much time it takes up and I'm sure you'd rather be playing with your prado than Modding everyones posts! Thanks again, -Phil

I must have got my directions fused. I meant to the top right of screen.

As Hutch said, type in tyres and you get 1 match... I think this was about the only thing I typed in that had a result.

** Ok now it has 4 results. It seems the search function may only be searching through the posts/threads that have gone up since the change over.
