I've got one of the CF35's in the car all the time.

The mother in law keeps the other one in her boot to keep the veges crisp on her shopping runs.

The 110 L F/F is currently sitting next to the bar fridge and being stocked up with Xmas tucker.

Yeah mate, treat it like your home fridge. When ours is not in the back of the Prado it is in the house on 240 keeping the family beers cold 24/7.

That was how I saw my Waeco's life at the start, after all never know when you need a coldie. In reality, my trips around town were only short and the second battery went flat.
So I have had to revise that strategy for now.
It does stay in the car and after 15 months with now wiping and care, it has no mould and gets infrequent use. It is good to turn it on through the day and put a box of beer in it ready for knock off time though.

Re: Fridge storage when not in use

Hmmmm ok this is all very interesting as most people seem to put their car fridge to good use in the "off season". Mines been sitting now for about 2 months. How long do you guys think I should leave it before giving it a run? It's probably going to get cranked over Christmas anyhow but it seems you shouldn't leave them sitting too long normally right? But how long is too long? Should I crank it once per month?

Well I'll be buggered, never thought of putting the drinks in it in the house when its not in the car. My TC35 in the study will get some good use now hahaha...

Re: Fridge storage when not in use

What about 3-way fridges? Are we meant to keep them running occasionally? If so, should it be on 240, 12 or gas?

Re: Fridge storage when not in use

I think 3-ways use heat-exchange rather than a compressor and therefore don't need the regular 'turnover'.

We just 'upgraded' to the waeco to replace our old 3-way. The 3-way is more than 30 years old and would have sat unused for years at times. Still works great!

[We only changed because they are not so good on 12V, and certainly would drain a battery in an hour or two - but on gas or 240, they work brilliantly.]

Re: Fridge storage when not in use

Took the Prado with waeco to the shops on Saturday - what a luxury to go to the fruit and vege market, then over to the seafood store, then back to the main shops and not have to worry about food going off. I may need the Prado every Saturday now!!!

Also used it as the beer/wine fridge on Sunday for Fishnuts b'day bbq.

Perhaps I need not worry about storing it anymore....... :!:

Hrmmm Mrs Fish.. you've given me an idea. See.... in my house... there's this whole *whoosh* *CRACK* thing going on and often I'm doing the grocery shopping while the other 1/2 is off in the Bahamas "de-stressing" on a deserted beach with a few cocktails watching the sun go down.. Ok so I used a little poetic license but you get the idea..... I must admit I just haven't been keeping the Engel in the Prado at all because I was worried about Fragwits peeping in through the window and going off to their bogan-mobile to get their handy window-busting sledge hammer. That's the thing about Bogans, if you think it's something they'd probably do then it surely happens... with interest! I did get that security tint though.... Anyhow, the number of times I've had to run around like lightning doing "my" shopping because I'm worried about the rump steaks in the car beggars belief. I'm thinking I might just make the Engel more of a permanent fixture.....

IP, ours doesn't live there permanently - for just that reason. But it takes all of 2 minutes to put it in there and with the waeco turbo function and the second battery it's cold in less than 20 minutes. Easy!
