      • Hope all those expirencing the wild weather some of us are having at the moment are doing alright.

The rain here in Tasmania is starting to cause issues for me and my family. Had to do a mercy dash to their place today to check for wet floors as drains were blocked and they are away. Luckily all was good.

The amount of rain and the strong winds are sure battering the state.

Hope the fellows in South Australia are getting some sort of rain to fill their tanks.

          • Not so much weather, more astronomy.

Has anyone else looked up at the night sky tonight to see the planet Saturn as it passes behind the full moon? You can clearly see it with the naked eye; and clearly make out its rings with binoculars. Simply amazing.

                    • Some predictions have the cyclone hitting Toowoomba on Saturday still as Cat 1. I think the water board will be dumping water out of wivenhoe as fast as they can. Hope we dont get the rain we got 4years ago cos it could get ugly

                        • The media shows pictures of long queues of cars waiting to get fuel in Rockhampton. Did some of these people just wake up and notice the storm bearing down on them? Surely, when living in cyclone-prone areas, as I currently do, people do a little preparation and have a little stockpile of the necessities in order to ride the storm out. You now, little generator, camp lights, torches, gas, tinned food, bottled water, beer. And a couple or more jerry cans of fuel to get you through. Frozen meat in the fridge can be transferred to the Engel, etc. You don't have to store the fuel for long periods, simply chuck the jerries into the car and then top everything up again every month or so. Oh, that's right - they're too lazy.

It'll never happen to me. Plus, too many severely underestimate the power of a tropical cyclone. When I lived in the tropics, I was exactly like you... prepared to survive and be self-sufficient for 5-7 days. Having lived through Cyclone Tracy, I fully understand what these meteorological monsters can do.

That's more scary than funny, these clowns are looking after people and can't even put diesel in the gen. Hopefully they were too busy concentrating on people's health....
