    Re: OT - Weather

Those people, including kids, standing in the middle of the causeway while flood waters rush past are idiots. People truly underestimate the force of moving water and the risks involved in flood waters, both in rivers and drains.

You only need to lose your footing, which actually doesn't take much, and then you're in deep trouble. The depth of the water is almost insignificant. Its the hidden dangers of rocks, debris, having one of your limbs caught on something or just hitting your head.

I can't believe the stupidity of some people. And when someone gets washed away, they'll expect rescuers to risk their lives to save them - if they can. If they can't and the worse occurs, they then seek to blame authorities for supposedly letting these things happened (ie why weren't we stopped or warned).

    Idiots.

I agree David and I actual told three aboriginal kids that they should not be where they were but they ignored me and so did some aboriginal elders nearby. Not much more I can do than what I did. I took a few shots of them in the river and at one stage I thought they were goners for sure. I have not posted those shots anywhere. Re: OT - Weather

Big tides at the moment... King tides actually.

The sea is very high tonight in Darwin (7.98m) but will be higher again tomorrow night, at 8.10m. The water is right up to the earths edge - you can't see any of the beach or sand whatever. Lucky we don't have any big storms at the moment otherwise it would definitely breach the sides and inundate some areas around town.

I see Queensland and other places are feeling the affects of the tides too:

            Torres Strait islands

            King tide batters Sandgate Qld

            Tides and Rains threaten Mackay

Yep, SEQ too... one of our favourite seafood restaurants/cafe's had to close yesterday because the water kept splashing over the wall and into the dining area

                      Re: OT - Weather

Darwin's currently getting another burst of true monsoonal wet season weather. Waves of strong rain for the past 24 hours or so. Not too often that you need to put the hot water booster on up here.

Alice Springs is also getting heaps of rain.

Yep plenty of excess water down here at present and yes we too had to turn on the solar booster yesterday, makes a difference to covering half the solar panels to stop it getting too hot

NTES has been flat out since Friday night, we havnt stopped really. One deceased Friday night and land search conducted on Saturday morning with the persons located Saturday arvo. Doesnt pay to be intoxicated while crossing a flooded causeway. We have had several properties with drainage problems and with the wind picking up we should see some trees taking a rest with all this moisture. Anyhow gotta run we have had another callout,

So much for the start of the Dry Season being in May. The Mindal Beach sunset (dry season) markets were actually cancelled the other night due to some recent rain we've been experiencing here in Darwin. Looks like a last ditched efforts by Mother Nature to squeeze out all the humidity before we move into the Dry Season proper.

Re: OT - Weather big dry continues!

In SW WA is becoming the winter of our discontent because we have not had any rain since the 28th of May. Looking at the various weather sites it unlikely to rain before next Saturday 12 June.

June is usually the second wettest month of the year with 134.7mm and 15.4 rain days.

The farmers will be getting desperate for rain to plant the grain crops.
