As bad as it here in Australia, others are also reeling from the effects of a world weather pattern gone mad:

Near Port Augusta on Tuesday afternoon. It has risen from 42 at Wudinna to the 49 at Iron Knob. I took this photo coming into town.

Port Augusta's top was 48.7 just after 4. Within 30 minutes past Mambray Creek it had dropped to 28 and was raining.

We were towing a loaded CT and were flat out at 90km/h into a strong southerly until Lochiel.

There are still some people, including politicians who deny it.....

Meanwhile, Queenslanders must think Mother Nature is really against them at the moment......

Well... another extraordinary event in Japan the other day. Hard to comprehend really - even the pictures are almost unbelievable. The power of water is just amazing.

Not wanting to be a doomsayer or anything, BUT, noting the size of the earthquake recently in New Zealand, and then a magnitude 9.0 in Japan, you reckon Los Angeles or the West Coast of both North and South America must be next to experience a major shift in their fault lines.

... and then AU gets it's own taste of the earth shaking. A 4.0 off the coast of Innisfail the other day :?

                  • Re: OT - Weather

Seriously that report about the 4.0 earthquake is a bit of a joke when you think what has happened in NZ and Japan of late. I reckon there has been a tremor of 4.5 or more nearly every time I have been to Japan, and that is now 30+ times. Most you don't even feel and only realise when it has been reported in the news. Only one in 1990 even caused enough bother to get out on the street (6 something).

I was about 1,000km South of Sendai on Friday and didn't feel anything yet there are reports from China and Russia that lights flickered and windows rattled. The tsunami was 500mm and was imperceptible on the tide. Ah well depends which bit of the earth's crust you are on I guess.

And the woman who said she felt the 4.0 quake for about a minute? She needs to get something to settle her gastric juices or imagination.

We should be thinking and helping those who were really affected and not trying to get a bit of 'me too' cred going. I know lots of people who were in evacuation centres here during the floods and at least it was over 20C, in Japan at the moment it is closer to 0C. Highest temperature last week while I was in Japan was 8C. It's currently 10C in Tokyo with a minimum forecast of 1C tonight. Poor buggers.

I can't work out the intended tone of the post but I will clarify that all I meant by mentioning the 4.0 quake was that something strange is happening on this planet we call home... droughts, floods, fires, volcano's getting more active, earth quakes, tsunami's...

Snaga I wasn't having a dig at you. My comments were in reference to our media who only want to report bad things and 'look Oz has had an earthquake too'. And they only want to concentrate on how many killed or maimed...

Sure the last quake in Newcastle was bad, we don't build for earthquakes but the hype about a 4.0 on the news last night was ridiculous. The tsunami did 90% of the damage in Japan if not more. Not sure what video was shown here but a number of buildings in Tokyo and Sendai security footage showed buildings rocking, the footpath/paving lifting and buckling like it was a carpet and then people going back to work because the building design did its job. Paving is easy to fix.

Not really the weather - although it will no doubt affect the tides slight.

But tonight is a Lunar Perigee, meaning the moon is much closer to Earth than normal and will appear about 15% bigger:

So keep an eye out tonight!
