  • 4x4 Australia

In the January 2009 Edition of 4x4 Australia, it lists a 'mystery player' family 4wd to be included in its 4x4 of the Year competition. The manufacturer has apparently allowed the vehicle to be included on strict conditions that its identity is embargoed until the New Year.

The magazine suggests that this vehicle model is a popular 4x4 family wagon that has always performed well on and off the road. The new vehicle has apparently got a new engine, with much improved performance and economy figures.

So what do you all think it might be? Any guesses?

The Patrol must be just about due for an entirely new model to take on the 200 series...and it wouldn't be hard to fit an improved engine into a new Patrol either.

I think pajero will only be getting a new engine not a facelift. The bubble shape rig is most likely the new look challenger.

Yeah the new challenger has the front end of the new Triton, so maybe it is... 8)

The challenger has already been shown in the mags, so i doubt why it would need to be covered up, plus it is too big for the challenger. I would almost bet money that it is the pajero as someone said plenty of advertising for the runout model.

                  Re: 4x4 Australia

Well, what currently has lagging-behind economy figures? Haven't the Pajero's been the same for a little while now? Wouldn't be surprised if that was it. Could the Prado really improve on economy figures all that much?? Both the V6 and D4D are already pretty good in that department.

                    Re: 4x4 Australia

Ok I might be a bit off base here ....

But how does a vehicle thats not for sale yet, be included in the 4WD of the Year? :?

I thought the title went to the best fourbie on the market over the past year ??

Makes me think perhaps a big advertising account or something has some say in the winner if a not yet for sale vehicle is allowed in.

                    Just my cynical thoughts

                    Lee

oh yeah and my vote for fourbie of the year is my own because its the best one I use

The new batch of NT will be release into the market on the 26th of December 08. They will be reintroducing the GL, GLS models to take on the prados face on. All vehicles other than the GL comes with 5speed auto, traction control and a rear diff lock (optional on GL). It also has ground clearance equivalent to the LC200 of 220mm as oppose to prados 205mm. The only disadvantage is the lack of a factory long range tank. The new package is a very appealing option for would be prado buyers. Very tempting indeed...
