  • Awning - ARB or Open Sky????

I am after some feedback from people who have an Awning on their vehicle. I am considering either an ARB or Open Sky awning. Can you please let me know your experience with your awning, ie) ease of set-up, cost, durability and ease of taking oon and off the car.

    Thanks in advance

Re: Awning - ARB or Open Sky????

We bought an ARB awning just before Christmas (the car needed a pressie to).

Easy to mount to the Toyota cross bars, my wife and son did it while I was putting the headlight and bonnet protectors on. It does take two people to erect and collaspe easily but is done very quickly we are very happy with it and are considering getting the rear awning if we can track on down. That will involve some changes to the roof racks though.

    Cheers Neil

Edit Forgot to say how much. Payed $370 cash and that included the rhino brackets to mount to the cross bars.

I have an ARB roof rack, so the guy said they just attach the awning to that.

I guess I just want to knwo if the wife could use it by herself, or if two people are required.

I would say one well balanced agile person could do it, it would take a bit longer though. It is very easy for two people though no more than 20-30 secs at a guess.
          Unzip,
          Roll out
One person moves to the middle and drops end poles while supporting awning
Other person adjusts end poles then
puts side poles in and velcos
Peg poles at base and with guys if windy.
I would not recommend it for one person. Yes the awning would attach easily to the ARB rack, I am sure you could mount it your self.

they r exactly the same awning, just a different badge, i bought the opensky and attatched it to my roof basket, they can be a bit tricky of 1 person but you get the hang of it after a while

had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

My Brother has an awning from Danbri Canvas,

http://www.danbricanvas.com/ Its a bit cheaper, but needs ropes & pegs.

Also if you want a 'fancy, you beaut, beez kneez' awning, Check this one out. Its brand new, called a 'fox wing'

Yes, its dearer of course, but not too bad when you price up a side awning & rear awning, as this is both in one.

Looks good, would seem to especially go well with a trek (rear door) table.

No I only have the standard awrning, its all I need, but speaking to the owner of Polaris they are seending out more awnings custom made to to the customers specs than the standard awnings, you can check out thier link http://www.polarisinnovations.com/Index.html
