Just watched the news , and if it comes down to spirit the pommy supporters have got us licked , their chants and taunts make us look like absolute morons . Here they are singing lyrics like you all live in a convict colony ,to the tune of yellow submarine , and what do we come up with ? Crap like we are the Aussies , the mighty mighty Aussies , or that bastion of intellectual enterprise ,Aussie Aussie Aussie , oi oi oi . At least at the end of the day we can say , yeah you may have won the rugby and you may have won the ashes , but you have to live in England and what's worse is that you sent us over here . Live it up pommies , I've been to your house, and I know why 90 % of you would rather be here . What was that mid winter temperature the other day ? 21 degrees . You can have the ashes

Well batted Agar and Hughes. I admire the English players who clapped them and allowed them to walk off first at lunch. A great example of playing hard and still being a good sport.

Can our tailenders save us ...AGAIN? Our batsmen need a good kick up the pants. Too often the bowlers are expected to do the batsmens job.

The video umpire was not sure of the 'hot spot' on the bat, so he asked to hear the audio, and gave Haddin out on that alone. How the f*** can he have judged it on that?

The faint 'hot spot' on the bat may have been caused by a contact with the pads, not the ball, same as the audio noise could not be conclusive.

It has always been, that if there is a doubt, the benefit goes to the batter, and he is given 'not out.'

My understanding is the video umpire just wanted clarification as the hot spot was pretty small!! Sometimes the hot spots can be caused by the bat flicking the pads on the way through however if you look at the shot, the bat was miles away from the pads, it was a fairly wide ball. The umpire just wanted this second clarification to make the call. Haddin just got the faintest of 'bees dick' inside edges, we've all just to live with that and move on. IMHO, if that tiny hot spot had not appeared the vid umpire would not have given it out just on the audio alone!! The batsman generally does get the benefit of the doubt! THE VRS is the same for both teams, it's just how one uses it! Thx.

... and don't forget that Agar got off free at 6 in the first innings. What comes around goes around. We were lucky to have made a competition out of it. Hopefully we'll do better in the second test.

I agree with Corigator. As for the walking issue no one can claim the high ground on that. Except me, I always walked, mind you that was easy because the umpires were arrarnging for new stumps to replace the smashed ones lying on the ground behind me, hopefully a few changes and we can be properly competitive.
