    Re: Webber Baby Q

We have the Big Family Q for home and the Baby Q for camping and still have the Weber Kettle, though this gets little use these days, but can't part with it.

    Definitely Q converts.

Are Webber Q's Apple Macs of the BBQ world?

        Re: Webber Baby Q

The Q's all use gas, the food doesn't have the same flavour as the older Weber Kettle BBQ's that use the heat beads, every bit as good, just a little different.

We bought our baby Q a couple of years ago, loved it so much we bought a larger Weber gas BBQ for home, fantastic! We use it a couple of times a week, beautiful no fat cooking.

I don't fully agree about the flavour. You can easily add woodchips to enhance flavour - there's plenty of options for this.

I would have to say that I have used both many times and the Q out performs the older style Weber by far. The way any juices drip down and smoke up gives steaks and roast a great flavour. I have retired my Kettle webber and 4 burner Stainless Beef Eater BBQ after buying a Q for camping, it didn't stay in the caravan long before I moved it to the pergola when not camping

              Strider

I must agree, I loved the Kettle BBQ with the heat beads and even smoked the Christmas ham in it, I have, however, used the kettle less and less over the last 18 months.

However I can still not let it go.

Some real positive comments here. I havent heard a bad thing about these BBQ's.
Was looking at a Q200. Think im sold now
                Just a quick question.
I have a family of 5. Is there anyone who has gone the 200 and have thinking they shouldve gone maybe the 220 instead? Or are they too big to lug around.
Will be using it for camping.
                Cheers John

We have the Q200 and reckon its just the right size. We also bought it not just for home, but more for taking along and using with our camper trailer. Sure it doesn't have the lid height of the other model, but it more than holds enough for us to do just about anything we want. It has never let us down and we must use it instead of the kitchen oven I reckon on average 2 nights per week.

I THINK the Q200 and Q220 are the same size in hotplate, just the 220 just has a higher lid and temp guage, but could be wrong on that.
The Q300, I think they call it the Family Q now, is the bigger one.
I certainly wouldn't want to be lugging a Q300 around camping. The 200/220 may be a little small to barbecue a whole meal for a family of 5 in one hit. ( especially if you have teenage boys ) You may need to do it in 2 batches. That'll be OK because you cook everything with the lid down, and it cooks fairly quickly.
But you can get a pretty big roast in the 220, big enough for 5.

Get the portable fold up stand rather than the big fixed stand, if you're going to be transporting it.
                    Cheers, Wayne

                        Re: Webber Baby Q

I picked up the Q200 the other day... Only cooked with it once so far - but very very happy with the result!!!

As per the book, the differences are as follows...
                        • Q100 - Height (with lid closed): 203mm + 153mm, Width: Unknown, no thermometer.[/*:1cnqfrma]
                        • Q120 - Height (with lid closed): 203mm + 181mm, Width: 406mm, with thermometer.[/*:1cnqfrma]
                        • Q200 - Height (with lid closed): 203mm + 172mm, Width: 476mm, no thermometer.[/*:1cnqfrma]
                        • Q220 - Height (with lid closed): 203mm + 197mm, Width: 476mm, with thermometer.[/*:1cnqfrma]

(Heights are: base up to plate + plate to top of a closed lid)

Min/Max cylinder capacity for these BBQs is: 4.5kg/9kg.

I don't have info on the different sizes of grill... Sorry...

                        Cheers Matt

Picked up this one today, after reading the positive comments here I thought it would be the go for our planned weekend travels over the summer months. Looking forward to giving it a go tonight for dinner!

Actually, it's a little more complicated than that - there are now 3x Q100-series models (the Baby Q) - the Q100, Q100E and Q120. The Q200-series models are the "Standard Q", not the Baby Q. You might have to go to a Weber specialty store to get the full range.

The Q100 is the basic Baby Q.
The Q100E adds the the higher hood and thermometer, and also electronic ignition.
The Q120 further adds fold-out side tables.

We actually have an older model baby Q which has the electronic ignition and fold-out side tables of the Q120 but has the lower profile hood (no thermometer) of the Q100. It's a shame they no longer sell that combination because:
                            1. the side tables are great for camping - they don't take up any more space as they fold inside the hood for transport and if you are using the portable stand you will definitely use the side tables[/*:m:dgl7h060]
                            2. electronic ignition is more reliable than piezo ignition (in my opinion)[/*:m:dgl7h060]
                            3. the extra height hood is unnecessary for most cooking and just takes up more space.[/*:m:dgl7h060]

However, obviously Weber's market research disagrees as they have discontinued this combination - and the higher hood is only an extra 28 mm according to Matt's info.

Anyway, we use ours for both home cooking and camping, and love it. Even with the low-profile hood, we've done a 2kg lamb roast in it which fed 6 adults and 1 child. However, a larger roast would not have fit under the hood.

                            Cheers, ld

I bought a Q120 a few months back and it is brilliant. Matty & Loz mention that the minimum bottle size is 4.5kg. I guess that is because the Webers come with a POL gas fitting standard. You can use a smaller bottle using a 3/8" LH to POL adaptor as we do.

As the $Aud is pretty much on Par with the $USD, Webers in America are half the price they are compared to Australia.

                                Ebay US shows Q100 at $129 & the Q200 $159
