    Re: Dodgy Servicing

Black oil when you come straight out of service sounds pretty dodgy to me. I just went out to the car park to check my mates oil 95 series 2000 desiel Prado which has 216500km on the clock which he has had since new. He changed the oil and filter at 210000 and just the oil at 215000. As I said we just went out and checked it and it still has an ambery colour to it, sure it is not a D4D but....

      Re: Dodgy Servicing

When my son bought his Surf, the oil hadn't been changed for 25000km. The mechanic had to change it twice to get it clean... and even then it was a little dirty. I am sure this was not your case though.

        Re: Dodgy Servicing

If oil comes out close to a black colour on the due service intervals that is good as the oil is doing its job .. Part of the oils job is to clean the internals of an engine if the oil comes out close to the same colour it went in either the oil filter will be totally clogged up or the oil is not doing its job and the engine may have a carbon build up from un burnt emissions .

Hi All, im the other PPer Black Prado Chick was talking about re:bad service, my sevice was the 30,000k service (actual 26,000 on clock) when i checked the oil it was black & smelt burnt like the old oil it was, i also had wrong klms logged in my log booked, should state 26,000, but had 294,000.
I went back to the dealer & complained about both probs, asking for the service manager, he was away, so i told the service tech, who told me, no way would they not have change the oil, i told him bullshit ive had Diesel 4x4s for over 20 years & i know new oil, plus i mentioned the klm,s he said change a digit....he he.
I contacted the dealers customer service, and was told it would be looked into & she would get back to me, im still waiting... i contacted Toyota head office, they stood by the Dealer.
I Changed the oil myself to Penrite HPR5 Diesel, i still have the old oil, but ive given up with Toyota, i will try another Dealer for my 40,000k service & hope for the best

Yep, honestly guys... think seriously about not going back there. I just don't think what's happened to you guys is acceptable. If that was me I'd walk away from that place and try somewhere else. There is another Toyota dealership close to where I work (that I don't currently use for servicing), I'm going to take my last service invoice in there and challenge them to do better with the price. Can't hurt can it?

Good work BPC! I don't wanna be your enemy!

Why do you want cheep and good quality? Doesnt work that way!!

Not in any way saying thats what BPC was after, but if you ask a business to save money on a service then its not possible for them to give you the same quality.

                Re: Dodgy Servicing

That's very true. But lets suppose for a moment, that I believe I'm paying above the norm for my regular servicing. After a little asking around, it appears that I could be paying in the region of $100 - $200 more than I should be, depending on which service it is. So, if the second dealer offers me a price that comes in around par (Cheaper than 1st dealer) for a reasonable job then I'm ahead. If I get charged the same then I'll admit I was wrong. At the moment, I can't see where the extra expense is going. Until I can see the justification and benefits for the amounts charged, over what I perceive as 'normal', then I reserve my right to shop around for a reasonable job at a reasonable price. No more, no less.

Nobody gets something for nothing.... it doesn't work that way!!!

How about we all get together and show each other how to the job right and do it ourselves - Matt you can then sign the log books :P

A personal friend of mine is the Service Manager at a regional Toyota Dealership. I travel an hour each way out of my way to have them service my Prado. My mate ensures his head mechanic with 20 years of Toyota experience works on my truck. This mechanic has great attention to detail and goes out of his way to make sure I’m happy with the service. If you want their details PM me.

                        steve johno and BPC,

I know which dealership you are talking about. I've never bothered with them because of problems I've heard people having with them.

I use South Eastern 4wd in Narre Warren.

I have been going there for over ten years now. They cost a little bit more than others but they do a good job on all my vehicles.

                        Best of luck

                          Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the tip, will keep them in mind, but i wanna try FTG Toyota 1st as i have a coupla minor warranty claims i want checked out & i suppose you have to go to a Dealer for that eh?
I had a bad experience with the previous Dealer at that location, but i thought this one would be ok...wrong, The 30,000k service cost me $445 & they did,nt change the oil or filter as far as i was concerned & no joy with the Dealership or Toyota head office, who stood by them.

Its a surprise how much the first place bodged my 30,000km service up....
Today my prado had its 40,000km service (elsewhere of course). Now its running like a dream!
It has 100% more power then what it has had recently, and its idling alot better.
When arriving they sat me down, went thru every single problem/issue I thought the car had and while I was still in there talking about it the mechanics started going over it with a fine tooth comb. They even mentioned to me about my fog lights being smashed (that happened on the 1st PP trip, ive been too slack to replace them), this issue wasnt raised by the other place...... I will NEVER be using the old place I used to go to since this new lot seem to know all about customer service!

Just a word of advise from many folks here in Alice Springs. DO NOT take you vehicle to the local Toyota dealer unless you have to. Dodgy is not good enough for this place. It might have already been said, and should be repeated.
