      Re: Defected....

Unfortunately, the pricks in charge have developed a focus on "enforcement".

They don't believe in education. Education should come first, unless there is a blatant issue regarding safety. If the subject decides to ignore the advice or continues to challenge authority then out comes the infringement and/or work order book. Modifying errant behaviour pays off in the long term.

For most of us this has always worked well, and for me, it still does.

          Re: Defected....

Yesterday I was pulled over after a brain fade, turned left at a no left turn sign. It’s a big sign, can’t miss it, and I drive through this intersection several times a day.

As soon as I turned the corner and saw the patrol car I thought ‘oh ...., I’ve been done, what an idiot”. The cop who had been standing in the rain for a while by the looks of him, took my license number and rego and told me the reason for the attention.

His mate in the patrol car called out “you might want to check his trailer”

“What”? said the guy at my window.

“Check his trailer!” my guy looks at me and says “don’t worry, didn’t hear him. You realise what you did?” “Yep” “You won’t do it again will you” “Nope” “Cool, make this a warning, have a good day”

Personally, I don’t understand the anti law enforcement sentiment in today’s society. As with all of us, they are just guys doing their job, earning some coin to pay the bills etc. As with any workforce, you get the good with the bad, and these guys and girls have a harder job than most of us I’m guessing.

            I think I do.

As a teenager, when you first get your license you wear P Plates. You are a magnet for attention by the police. It doesn't take many altercations, especially by the less customer service oriented cops for the police to become the enemy. Think about it, when and where are you most likely to see a copper doing his job? Traffic. Booking someone, or trying to catch them with a radar or whatever. Must be a real pain for the cops too, because this public attitude gets in the way of their non-traffic work.

NZ had the right idea, they had Police and traffic separated, but I think that changed and they are the same as us now?

You and i only see them doing traffic because, like most other law abiding citizens, we arn't on a drug/alcohol fuelled bender throwing bricks through car windows at three in the morning, or adding 'toss-bag' blow off valves to a hotted up Honda civic. As far as i'm concerned, if i do the wrong thing i cop it sweet. If the copper yesterday handed me a ticket, as he was entitled to do, i would have been pissed at myself for an hour or so, then moved on.

I think most people that have a gripe with police have too much attitude and too little respect. None of this is directed at you or Team Piggy by the way.

I reckon this ought to become the norm. Let's face it, we start out the day trying to do the "right thing" (criminals with intent excluded ). So when we inadvertently make a minor mistake, a warning can be far more effective long-term and leaves you feeling positive about the experience. More positive vibes in this world is a good thing.
