    Australia Day in Darwin

Just came back from a 21 gun (cannon) salute by the Armed Forces including a fly-over by three F/A-18 Hornets in formation. Excellent.

Both were extremely loud but impressive.

I joked with my son... imagine a family of tourists who had arrived in Darwin and were sitting in their hotel not realising what was about to occur when the jets roared over and then all hell started breaking loose with the cannons echoing throughout the city. They would've thought that Darwin was under attack again! ROFL.

Just got back from Stockton beach. Had a few XXXX's and relaxed. A few F/A18 hornets flew up the coast at a few hundred feet which was pretty cool. BBQ & swim tonight

Yep, watched it and thought (and I think commented to the FIL) exactly the same thing.

I was however impressed with how well they went anyway.

I spent a bit of time in the garden, not much else.

Woken up by the garbage truck setting off the alarm in the wifes VW at 4.45am, up at 7.00 and headed off down to Bonnyvale camp/picnic ground at Bundeena to grab a spot before half of Lakemba descended upon us. Bbq breakfast, paddle in the kayaks and a couple of beers before escaping to some friends house nearby for bbq lunch by the pool, a few more beers, a swim before walking back to Maianbar to join other friends on the local wharf for another swim, more beers and finally home at 8.30pm.
We're all absolutely knackered but I notice that my dear wife has her eyes glued to the tennis again

Had an Aussie breakfast at a mates house, then off to Sirromet Winery to see Tina Arena and Ronan Keating perform (both were fantastic) and then home in time to see the last half hour of the cricket. What a great day!!

                        I mowed the lawn too.
Then did a bit of tending to the vege garden.
We were going to walk down the hill to the local celebrations in the park but ran out of time.

But I did knock off at 4 pm to have a beer and watch the cricket.

I have to say though, whenver I hear the "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi Oi Oi" chant I cringe a little. Overseas they must think we're all a bunch of yobs.
I'm as proud as the next man to be an Aussie, but show it in less raucous ways.
                        Cheers, Wayne

                          Hi

I celebrated by sons birthday, yes my first born has a holiday for his birthday every year, damn shame  . He turned 15 years old. He is the best kid. Celebrated at the pool with a group of his friends. It was a really nice day.

                            An Arvo with Ronan

G'day all. I was asked to do a trip report on this one from Samo and FBP as a laugh, but I figured it
was better suited to this thread instead.

Australia Day saw LFaR & I spend a Day on the Green with Ronan.
Not by choice, but just because I was dragged kicking and screaming by the other half.
Perhaps it should read "a stick'n hot arvo sittin in paddock with Ronan" LOL
Yes, I know.....the things we do to please our other half.
All I can say is that the sun was out and beating down hard.
If you fancy sitting in a grass paddock in 34 degree heat then this was a concert for you.
The 1st act was Ex Idol - Damien Leith
                            2nd Act - Tina Arena
3rd and Final was Ronan Keating. And didn't the 40+ something age old ladies go nuts for irishman.
Overall I spose, it wasn't too bad. Perhaps if it wasn't so damn hot, I may have enjoyed it more.
He did do a great cover of Midnight Oil's - beds are burning, which was a surprise.
Here are a couple of pics from an arvo with Ronan.

                            cheers

I can't wait for the trip and I bet the kids can't wait for school Anyone else in the area look out for a Navy Blue 120 with sticker on the rear. Was there last year and know how popular it is then.

It was a little cool down at Beachport late on the Friday. We headed up towards Nora Crena on Saturday but had been told the beaches where closed due to erosion. On the Sunday we headed down past Southend through some soft sand and ended up over looking one of the lakes. We had planned to get to Carpenters Rocks but ran out of time due to a few vehciles struggling in some of the sand. Hit up on 9 Mile Drift on Monday and that was awesome. Didn't come back via the beach. The kids and wife wanted to have a look around so we headed to Robe and Kingston on our merry way. All up a great weekend with a great bunch of people. Wouldn't mind arranging another meet up with the South Aussie PPers again soon.
