Same here. Although personally, if I was in need of a blood transfusion I think I would consent to the miniscule theoretical risk of contracting CJD.

There is such a shortage of blood, and such a relatively small population with a higher and higher percentage of that population being Brits, I don't know how long they will be able to sustain the service with that policy.

The Mrs and I go every time they come to work. Good way to get out of work get some free food and help out those who need it.

          Go every three months.

Think it's the least I can do as you never know when you might need it. Plus it takes maybe 30 mins from go to woah depending how busy they are..

I did it for about 1 and a half years - first time I went green, but after that no problems... Till I went with a hangover and no fluids... Back went the chair and the narrow vision... Haven't been back.. But will go eventually.

Just to say great idea to get more involved and to those who have been doing so for years, keep up the great work.

I gave for about 10 years but am no longer able as I carry the malaria antibodies now, thanks to a vacation to Vanuatu!

My son had significant surgery at 8 months and needed blood so karma paid me back then.

You'll never know it's missing but the person who receives it will for ever be grateful. Plus the juice and biscuits are worth the wait.

I'm in the same boat...went a few years ago and I politely got chucked out of the van.

Could not agree more, seems a bit of an archaic policy now. I was only trying to give something back to help people.

I do every three months and plasma in between. I have had to have a blood transfusion myself so I think it is a very worthwhile and almost painless thing to do.

I take blood if that counts.

I have also given blood. Those of you with O- are the most wanted. The rest of us are still needed. Its quite scary how low the stocks get sometimes

Totally agree, but it is a personal choice to do so or not.

If you are thinking about it, just do it.

Plasma for me every two weeks. Do whole blood every so often when they really need it. Tried platelets, but that donation just doesn't agree with me so not any more. Takes about the same time for the missus to do the shopping while i donate, how convenient.
