Re: Turbo tent 240 plus, a good thing or what ??

I have been looking at the 270 Lite from BCF, it's $799 but I think if I wait until the camping and leisure show up here in June I should get a better deal there. The only problem is no awning out front, but where I'll be going to use it (Simpson in August) I don't think that should prove much of a drama.

Re: Turbo tent 240 plus, a good thing or what ??

I have the Blackwolf FS 250 lite. The build quality on mine isn't the best unfortunately. Clearly there's been something go skew-iff on the production line. Just some of the fabric sections are out of alignment and I've been meaning to go see another one set up to see what they're supposed to look like when set up. No huge deal as it's still water proof and goes up properly etc etc etc.

They go up fairly quickly - with the tent basically 'popping' up once you've got all the ground pegs in place. The fly is a bit of a pain though and we find it a little fiddly and finicky, and that's where Blackwolf's claim of it being a 5 minute tent goes out the window. With the fly, it isn't a 5 minute tent, more like 10 - 15 minutes. But I guess practice will help out there. If you want to put out all the guy ropes for strong wind conditions then add more time still. Though I've never yet put the guy ropes out.

The NoSeeum windows are the stuff. You can have them open and not really see someone in the nuddy if they're getting changed etc etc. But you do see an outline......

Roof vents are a good idea. You can also use em to look at the stars if you don't put the fly on. 8)

Rounded door shape is a very good idea because the zipper doesn't catch half way through the unzip or zip up movements. Nice and big too. We fit our king singles in through there no probs at all.

The real dowside is they really aren't that easy to pack up as already mentioned. There's definitely a method to it, but all to often we're straining the zipper on the carry bag to fit it in properly. I think some extra compression straps would go a long way here and I've been meaning to see If I can get some extras for mine. The FS250 does fit crossways behind the rear seat in the 120's, which is where we put ours. Just 2 of us though.

What we really like though is being able to stand up in it to get changed etc etc. That was a big plus for us.

The flooring could have been a slightly heavier material I feel, but I guess the 'lite' versions are about keeping cost and weight down. I use a tarp underneath it most of the time.

Overall a damn good tent. Bit of a pain as a quick overnighter for one or two though. But for a family I'd say these would be one of the better tents to buy. From what I could see, the Oztents folded up to a fairly similar size to the Blackwolf's, and I think don't need as much faffing around to set up properly. But the trade off is the dimensional space, I think standing up in an Oztent might be difficult. Depends what's important to you.

Full canvas Blackwolf's are good bits of gear. Solid an an outback dunny. To expensive for us too though.

I notice that recently Anaconda has been having very decent specials on their Blackwolf tents. Easter sale time might be interesting. They beat competitor prices too 8) .

We just did 3 weeks travelling every day, we have an Oztent RV3 great for the two of us, the other couple had a Turbo 300plus, much more room not much harder to set up but at least 10mins to pull down and get back into the bag, RV3, 1 minute. The downside of the RV3 is its length, we had to put it on the roof, probably not a bad thing when camping in the dust as the car interior stays clean.

We have a Blackwolf Turbo 300 (canvas). It has been a great tent, fast up/down, sturdy and weatherproof.
We found that the time difference to set up / pack up between the Blackwolf / Oztent really is irrelevant in the big picture. We found the vast majority of our pack up/set up time was bedding, bags, cooking equipment, food, lights, tables, chairs etc.

                Yep, Yep.

One of the reasons we went Turbo. City time is steal time, and it's nice to be able to stow it in the cabin when the vehicle is parked.

Just a little something I found out on the weekend while looking at the 240 plus and 300 plus, the poles to hold the awning up at the front are different lengths between the two models. The 240 poles are shorted than the 300 poles.

Re: Turbo tent 240 plus, a good thing or what ??

I've got a Turbo 240 canvas version and its just outstanding! Packed up it's small enough to fit on the back seat. I had a look at the Oz Tents too as pitching speed was high on the list of criteria. The Oz Tents have to go on the roof, which I wasn't too keen about and in my opinion the canvas Turbos are better put together.

A while back we camped with a lot of other people and an almighty storm kicked up. Every other tent had either collapsed (I jest you not!) or had taken in buckets of water. Our Turbo didn't even wobble and not a single drop of water inside.

The only 'negative' I can think of is that the floor material is very thick, which in itself is a great thing as it's bound to last for years. However, in clod weather it can get pretty stiff, so packing up takes a little more elbow grease... Other than that - the best tent I've laid my eyes on.

As a matter of fact, before getting the 240, I had the 'Compact' (210 x 210 x 160cm), but flogged it as it was a bit too small. I know the current owners and they're happy as with it. No rips, tears or stuck zippers etc. It's now four years old and has had a LOT of use.

I set a mates one up and did not like it

                              Big in the bag
Walk around once to spread it out
Walk around again to get it flat on ground
Walk around again to hammer pegs in
Walk around again to hinge poles
Stand inside to fully errect (dizzy by now)
Walk around again to get fly on straight

I now walk in a curve to the esky

Any comments about how i walk that way anyway and your dead

Take the pegs with you and hammer them in as you go. That will save you two circuits. Once you have one in, its easy to tension the floor against it. If you want to save trips, you can do the leg hinges as you go too.

Try alternating direction each time if you are prone to dizzyness.

Seriously, almost any tent will repay experience and practice putting it up and down. I've seen people put up complicated tents in less time than it takes a newbie to sort out a simple hiker tent.
