  • OT: Current model Corolla question

Bit off the topic but I have to throw this one out the the wider community as we don't know anybody with a Corolla/manual.

A few months back we bought a Corolla for the wife to use as a daily run about.

When started from cold it revs to 1500-1800rpm during the warm up cycle (even now in summer). I find this quite excessive (I know my way around many makes and models and from experience would say 1000 - 1200 rpm is the warm up cycle for most 4 cylinders)

I've checked the idle control valve and checked for fault codes.

I have been told this is normal :?: Toyota tech) I can't believe this, it sounds terrible when it jumps straight to 1800rpm when cold and I shudder everytime I start it.

So... anybody out there have a current model Corolla with manual transmission? can you confirm the warm up cycle RPM?

    Mick

We have an '09 Corolla as a runabout also however it's an auto. It revs high on first start 1000-1200, only for a few mins then back to nomal idle.

        Mick,

To me it does sound a bit excessive, however having said that my folks have the early 90's model.

When started up, it revs quite hard but I recall it more like 1200-1300 rev range.

But it does then idle down fairly quickly, warm start no excessive rev issues.

We have had a late 2007 manual and it will rev to 1800 rpm when really cold only otherwise only about 1200 rpm usually only for about 30 secs . Well that's what it did to last week when it had the last sevice at the Toymota dealer ...............now it seems to be like yours .
