We are heading to Fraser for an extended long weekend with some friends. The missus and I have taken the Thursday off to beat some of the rush and also taken the Tuesday off so that we can sit back with a couple of cold ones and watch the poor suckers who have to head back Monday.

We'd love to head up the Thursday, as Jeff has the day off. But, as luck would have it, I am rostered on Thursday night shift, and frankly it is worth too much $$ to try and swap it. So, Friday morning it shall be..I'll just have to push some toothpicks into my eyes to kepe them open!

Just heading up to Mansfield with the wife and father in law. He's bringing his van (with his Prado) and we're pitching a tent.
Do a bit of fishin', bit of drinkin', lots of relaxing and maybe even a bit of 4WDing around Mt Sterling. Haven't been up to Craig's Hut for a while so might pop up there to see what sort of tourist complex they've turned it into!

Hope everyone has a safe one whatever you do or wherever you go.

              Cheers.

I guess there must be lots of people who know of it, as its very very popular . Heaps of separate areas where you can find a place on your own, or areas to invite a cuppla hundred friends! We got a nice little outcrop over the running creek and veged out for most of the weekend. Went for a few drives around a few very muddy tracks after the rain they had on Thursday, and got to our spot by traversing the creek. It was not the cheapest Easter camping weekend... $50 per Adult for the 3 nights. They have a few scattered ablution blocks around the property that have one or two toilets and showers, which are ok, altho raised a few comments from the female fraternity! We had our Porta Pottie so were ok, and indeed next visit.. will take a solar shower for a bit more independance. So yes... we would go back there again, as there are so many and varied camping areas, you could try something completely different next time.
A few snaps of our settlement.

                    Move sheep
Bur chipping (if your from the country you know what a crap job that is)
Get 2 dead motor bikes going
Install a car stereo into a tractor (man my wiring is dodgey)
Plough a paddock (listening to new stereo)
                    Fix a pump
                    Make a bonfire
                    More bur chipping
                    Collect the chicken eggs
                    More bur chipping

I need a break just to get over my holiday

Thanks Masso, that looks like a lovely spot! I googled Gordon Country and it looks like a future weekend getaway is in order

                        Re: Whats On For Easter

We weren't going away but seeing everyone leave town made us jealous

Ended up going to the Pyrenees Ranges for two nights.
Stayed at the Glenpatrick reserve (old footy oval). The locals have done a good job of providing a nice area with flushing toilets, good shelter area & BBQs. Also allowed to take dogs there as well as anywhere in the ranges.

The ranges are great fun which is why my shots are very boring - most of the time I was just having too much fun to worry about the camera, and I was driving for the entire trip this time.

First night the wife suggested we take a "short cut" through the ranges Some great ridge tracks which I never would have attempted with the camper normally. Was very impressed with where we got it but wouldn't do it by choice.

The next day we spent all day up & down tracks.
This has to be the most challenging 4WDing I've done since I was a teenager. Lots of very steep sections, some rutted hills and one track I chickened out of.
Got in a sticky situation around the corner of a very steep track as I drove up..the track turned into a walking track & I had nowhere to go. Spent a good 40 mins just turning the car around, there was no way I could've backed down it without a winch but the ground evened out a little off to one side so we were able to get around there. Will be purchasing a winch when possible that's for sure. Had wheels in the air just edging down at one point and felt the whole thing was going to go on me. All in all a good bit of practice!

Apparently there had been a few vehicles stranded down some of the tracks with various mechanical failures over easter.

For anyone going up there, keep an eye out for "bluff track" - a lot of fun & "Mountain hut track" - could be very difficult in the wet but otherwise easy, but beautiful views at times.
As mentioned, sorry there's not many pics..

Hi Chester, mine looks pretty much the same. We ran into a big swarm of them heading north around Parkes and then also crossing the Hay Plain on the Western Highway. I spoke to one fella and he said that the road from Broken Hill to Dubbo was yellow and crawling as there were that many locuts out there.

I will take some piccies of the mess first but will be giving it a hugh clean today, and again tomorrow and the next. I don't think I will ever be able to get it all out and the smell. We found that the bodies of the locuts were attracting European Wasps and had a number of them in the car with kids while I was packing at various times.

Will have a look all around the radiator to make sure that gunk is all out too.
