    Re: Best laid plans..

I was out in the fire truck today & heard this going on.
Doesn't surprise me about the hiway copper either, sorry if there are any hiway coppers on here, but they are generally a cranky bunch. Other times with the fireys I have had to break scene preservation rules at an accident and faced off with a hiway copper myself, I know how you feel, its even worse when your in a uniform.

Highway Patrol Officers........ Pffffft....... Glorified wankers that have no idea about what goes on in the real world.

I say good onya Matty. Great to see you had the ability and the back-up to assist in this pretty terrible situation. Alot of people would have just stood there and done squat. It's always good to have a nurse on standby. Got plenty around me.

Who gives a rats what he said mate. YOU did the right thing at the time. YOU assesed the situation and decided on the best actions to take. HE wasn't there, he had no idea. HE just wanted to be the one to take some glory around the doughnut shop.

Well done Matt, Jo and everyone else. I'm sure the bloke you saved will thank you all too. I don't believe for a second, you would have EVER contemplated driving by. That incident could have been sooo much worse, had you not done what you did. Don't you feel great knowing you saved someone's life?!!! That's what I loved the most about working in ICU
You go to bed tonight with a very clear conscience

I hope your next quiet family day out is just that!

            Karma to the copper!!

            Take care,

Onya Matt, sounds to me like you did an excellent job, especially considering the three young ones you had on board. i personally only take notice of critisism aimed at me if it comes from someone whos opinion i respect, if i dont respect their opinion then i just ignore them. I am sure the people you helped will respect you for your efforts, and hopefully thank you when they are in a position to do so.

              Cheers Andrew

Well done Matt, you do what heart thinks is right, more important to save someone's life than worry about the cause of the accident??

This was the same as our first trip to Caondamine Gorge and yes again it was a motorbike?? It took 3 hours to get the chopper in though to airlift him.

                  Re: Best laid plans..

good on ya matt and jo, 15 years of mines training has allows you to evaluate a situation and act according to your surroundings, and when the shoes on the other foot ( you know what i mean) you hope the the other ppl around can do the same, all that time playing doctors and nurses comes in handy and dont let anyone tell ya otherwise  as for the copper a band called NWA sang a song in the early 90s titled #$%k the police and that relates to that particular officer, as you say what a wanker. cheers samo

Matt you should be proud of your efforts and those of your wife and others involved with this rescue.
It would be all to easy to assume somebody else will take care of the situation, but who the "C.H.I.P.S" officer arriving 30 minutes after the event.
                    Well done!

I'm sure the cops roll up late so they don't have to make any quick decisions
Their minds are not that quick in some situations, otherthan having a go at someone doing the right thing ops:

                        Re: Best laid plans..

Thankyou! Much more important then the family trip out at the end of the day - as you say, there's always another day.
Damn red tape and people who don't see the value of life over someone getting sued - you obviously did the best you could in a tricky situation - I'd be pretty happy if I were in that situation.

Yesterday we went up to Craig's hut & around Mt Stirling area. Coming around the outside of a bend on circuit track out of there, a volvo travelling well faster than they should well over the middle of the road , in fact more on our side then theirs, a boulder on the edge of the road on my side and beside that a few hundred metres straight down. Had to swerve majorly then boot it to stay on the track, heart thumping after that one.. so could've just as well been me (& family) yesterday, and if it had I'd be extremely happy for anyone to help in a situation like that.

                        Good on ya.
                        Cheers - Phil Taylor

                          Re: Best laid plans..

                          Bloody well done!

I just did a 4 day first aid course and we were told that no matter what the incident, get everything out of the way of danger. If that means moving someone with a suspected broken back, move them.
Fact is, which many people don't know, you CANNOT successfully get sued for rendering first aid as long as your intentions are to help the casualty.

Well done moving everything out of the way, that could have very easily escalated, especially with a hill involved!
