The company has put a band on using internet for personal entertainment so I bring in my lap top watch a couple of movies and jump on the net occasionaly

Do you happen to know Jim Nichols or Jim Cowie? ...that's if I'm guessing one of the correct organisations...

There's some really interesting stuff here - what an amazing skill set we have on PPoint.. trouble is, it seems many might not get to use their Prado as much as they wish. I sure know I don't get to.

Keep em coming - I'm enjoying reading all your job descriptions etc.

Re: What does your job involve??

My job, i work as a HV electrician, I travel QLD keeping QLDs electricity grid operational.
Manually and auto switch the grid and generators of up to 330 000 volts, repairing major faults and emergency switching of powerloss at any hour of the night, general substation maintenance and installation of new Switchgear and control systems.

I maintain isolated switchgear and transformers up in the air in the middle of energized substations within very close proximity up to 330 000v live switchgear, where being aware of your surrounding and your machine placement in amongst the live gear is your number one thought.
I spend a lot of time driving between remote substations and also keeping safe and very close watch over exterior contractors working within an energized substation.

Overall, it’s rewarding work knowing you are providing a service to QLD and having such a large array of infrastructure to gain knowledge on and maintain. :-)

this all makes my job sound pretty dull . im a resource relocation engineer ie. i dig crap up and relocate it to the tip . im self employed in small earthmoving and demolitions catering to the building industry. usually doing something different or on a different site each day. even after 16 years i still enjoy playing in the sand pit with my bobcat excavator and truck . i feel really stupid when you go to the supermarket and they have one of those little excavator in the sandpit rides for the kidies and iwant to get on it or show the kidies how to work it .
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

Chriso is it true that the LPg gas at the petrol station for the cars is the same gas as the BBQ gas and we just get taxed more for the BBQ gas ?

Been in the fire protection industry for the last 12 years, working on fire detection and alarm systems.
Recently changed companies and now work on anything from the local supermarket to mining equipment.

These mobile diggers use the same fire control panel you'll find in a building, & control a duel agent suppression system (a mix of Dry chem powder & foam). The detectors detect the particular flicker frequency & infra red light given of by a fire and automaticly dump around 400-500 liters of agent on the fire.
