I am planning a trip to Tassie in September and I was wondering if it is a waste of time planning to camp. Too cold & wet??? I don't want to spend my time packing up wet gear. Otherwise we will stay in backpackers etc. Any experienced advise would be appreciated.

As they say, "if you don't like the weather come back in 5 minutes". Floods for the last two days and now it is 18 degrees. The weather really is a bit hit and miss at the moment, just like anywhere.
As Tassie Tiger said, East Coast should be the driest (having said that they are under water at the moment) and the wild West Coast is just that, wild.
If in doubt you can always do a mixture of both camping and backpackers/ cabins.Tasmania 2015 GTG Committee Member 2005 Prado Pilbara, Sovereign Bar, Driver & passenger weathershields, UHF TX3220, Spare wheel spaces, Lifestyle rack, Genuine front & midrow seatcovers, Genuine front & midrow rubber floor mats, ARB 47 litre fridge/freezer, Hilux washer jets, BF Goodridge A/T, Radiator protection plate, Dual battery tray and isolator, ARB 2.5m awning, Rhino heavy duty areo bars, MSA rear wheel bin, MAXTRAX

I've camped/hiked in the west for the last few years (early october). I can remember one mostly dry year, but generally have had at least a couple of wet days. Never had a complete wash out (yet)
Wet packup isn't that pleasant, but its not the end of the world either. At least you have a vehicle with a heater to dry out in. Harden Up!

Tassie in Winter: 2 fine days, 5 rainy days per week.
So - in September - something in-between...Rob.

Hobart ave annual rainfall 615mm
Brisbane ave annual rainfall 1150mm
Tempature in September can be a but hit and miss though!
I'd be planning to camp unless the weather looks dodgy, there's generally a cabin park or similar never too far away.
Enjoy our natural beauty down here. Ps. Our school holidays start about the 5th of sept, so could be a bit od accommodation demand.
Have fun, cheersWhite 200 TTD - Tint, Bar, Warn, blah blah blah
