  • Cape York Trip

    Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Cape York. I'll be travelling alone so I wasn't going to do the Old Telegraph Track. Are there many or any water crossings without a ferry or bridge on the main Peninsula Developmental Road?

    Thanks,

I was there sep last year . We had no water on the PDR . If it was a really long wet season up top there could be places that would have water over the road easy . You will miss out on alot of good driving if you don't try any of the olt.

I am planning to go to the Cape this year alone (well I have to take the Mrs) and was told that that if I stay of the Old Telegraph Track that my standard 120 would handle just fine. I am still putting in a 2" lift and bash plates to go with my ARB deluxe bar and winch which should ensure if I get in any trouble I'll be able to recover myself. This advise came from members of my 4WD club who have done the trip before and used both tracks.

i did it solo last year , the pdr is dull and rough , anywhere on the cape in july - august on any track , just wait half hour max and someone will come along and offer to guide or recover you , everyone is only to helpful, and it really is no longer remote. the only real problem creek is nolans brook on the top half of the tele track , depending how early you go in the season.
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

My wifes Hyundai i30 would handle the PDR just fine. I agree with others who have said take your time and join up with someone else up there. Everyone on the OTL is really friendly.

              Cheers

anybody going the school holidays in June be aware there is a group of 27 of us going and most with camper trailers so the tracks might be a bit more of a mess after us.
