This is at the top of the ridge, around to the left of photo it drops off and a steepish decent, which would be fun in the wet.

Here are some of the tracks up the top. Lots of exposed rocks around the place and tight turns. Craig your front mounted camera would be useful here. Out of shot there are a lot of really steep climbs that the comp trucks do.

You can have fires and there are plenty of pits around for lunch/camping .

In and around the park there is a lot of wildlife around including, kangaroos, Koloa’s etc

All in all, a fantastic day. Thanks to staff at scenic rim for giving us another great location to go.

A standard Prado would be fine for much of the park. Conversely there were some really challenging tracks we found ( I was as concentrating on driving these not photographing sorry) , with no buddy to snatch off, I was expecting to use the winch a bit, but in the end the MT’s, good lift, sliders and Locker overcame all. In the wet though it would be a different story….

We ran right to the end of the day exploring as many tracks as we could, then aired up (ran 25psi in the Micky Thomson’s for the day which was perfect) and headed for home. As we drove home and talked about the great day we had, conversation quickly drifted to planning our next trip…..

    Cheers
    Robert

            Hi Rob

Great report, couldn't get there as we had friends from Victoria show up unexpectedly. Maybe wait until we get some rain let the grass grow and do a weekend there.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

PS: Good to see Mr Machete got a work out.

No probesm at all Richo. Sounds like a plan.
I didn't take any photos of the campsites but after a bit of rain they would grass up better and not be so dusty.
Each campsite is level and would take about 10-15 camp setups I reckon depending on how much space they took up and they are surrounded by tress, so there is some shade.
They have about 300 litres of water in a large plastic container in the campsites for fire contol

I was trying out Verison 2 of Mr Machete. I like the blade length of a tradional machete, but many just dont have the blade weight and very thin. So I gave this Parang a go this weekend.

I was really impressed with it. Compact, with a heavy blade, well weighted and still sharp. It's a keeper.

              Cheers

                  Scenic Rim Sunday 23rd

                  Robert,

Hope you don't mind me high-jacking your thread but saves another on the same park.

A few friends and I drove out to Scenic Rim on Sunday for a bit of a play. It is as you say very dry and dusty at the very least. Little did we know what an eventful day this was to be.

We arrive around 10 am and checked in with Wendy at the office. We took the track to the right (facing office) exploring all and any tracks we come across. A number of them ended up dead ends and it was at times challenge to turn around especially with four vehicles in our group.

After an hour or two up the back of the park past the cabins we come across this track to our right. This took us down a hill to a cabin with a fire place and an outhouse with no door and a view. Here we had a long lunch relaxing and enjoying the view through the trees, a real top spot. After our lunch we noticed a track leading up and out. It was steep cambered to the left between trees. The ground was virtually bull dust with all sizes of loose rock some would call it a triple diamond track. I walked it and did a bit of track building with so many of these rocks lying in and around the track. I was volunteered to go first and hardily made a few meters with the wheels bogging down in the dust. Backing down and almost connecting with an already scarred tree I had another go but a lot more momentum. This time the 120 sunk the MT ATZ’s and up up up we went bouncing all the way to the top.
Next it was the Disc 4. This good friend of mine always cops it as we all drive Prado’s or Toyotas and did he get some sledging on the way (in good fun). He had three goes and on his second rolled back into the tree I almost hit damaging left rear quarter, light, rear bumper and possibly door. At this point I suggested dropping his tyres to 15psi and try again. He decided one more go and buried his right foot. The 180KW V6 Diesel spun all four wheels and within a moment there was an almighty bang and yes, left front CV joint was off to heaven.

What to do? He was back up against a tree, no drive to any wheel up a steep hill in bull dust and rock no to mention my 120 was up top 60 meters away. Time to put my winch to the test. Long story short two extension straps, half the cable and all the pulling power of my winch (at one point I thought it was going to break through my bull bar) and……..I was getting dragged forward with my foot on the brake. Had to get one of the other 150’s to come around, hook up to my rear and act as a second anchor. Finally the Disco started to move being over 2.5 ton dry so who knows what weight I was dragging. Once the cable run out I hooked up the straps to my car and the two Prado’s in tandem dragged him up the hill stopping a few times to shorted the straps. I backed into a small tree in the process *&#$ hate that but finally after I don’t know how long ‘eureka’ the Disco made it to the top be it all under Toyota power lol

From there I shortened the strap to five meters and towed him to the office. The truck finally arrived (from Beenleigh) and off to Land Rover it went.
Good news to finish off, Land Rover may not build the best of cars but they have a darn good backup. The tow truck was free, and all mechanical repairs are under warranty. Panel damage is all he was to contend with. Car will be back on the road tomorrow ready for our outing next week.

Here are some photos and if I can work out how to put video on UTube I will attached the link.

Moral of the story. DON’T BUY A LAND ROVER hahahahaha

Have to add shot of my car when I get them.
