You'll be fine Bendman, I am heading up next weekend.......get your tyre pressures down and you'll be right as rain. I'll chuck the Maxtrax in just in case (might actually bog myself for a bit of fun) but you'll be ok. One word of warning, make sure you know the tide times!!

Hi Bendman
If you get a a chance can you PM me the contact details of the villa owner or the website? Always looking for a good contact there. Are you heading over from River Heads? If so just don't worry about airing down until the morning you plan to hit the tracks. All of the Kingfisher Roads are bitumen and they have a great wash bay and air hose setup. We usually air down each morning and I air up again when we get back.
Hopefully there will be some rain up there as the track from Kingfisher to Central was the worst I have seen it, however as Mark said just let your tyres down to 18 and keep the momentum up, you will be fine. Also great bit of advice on the tide times (and Maxtrax), best to know them on the day as Eli Creek at high tide is narrow and you will end up with a salt bath.
Enjoy your trip, looking forward to hearing about it.
Cheers Dan-----------------------

We returned last week. Awesome pic from Sandy Cape, JamieC. We did not make it to the Cape although we would have loved to because Ngkala rocks gave us a headache (a guy with a big trailer got bogged big time, the track looked quite bad so we did not want to risk anything). Anyway we had a great time. The inland tracks were quite rough, hence pretty slow - sometimes as slow as 10km/h - takes a bit of time to get somewhereLast edited by Sydneydude; 08-10-2012, 09:08 PM.2010 Kakadu. Sorry forgot to mention Eli, yes that can be a bit nasty and correct at high tide you will get a salt bath (which none of us want).
I usually run at about 20 PSI, BUT have gone as low as 15....to each their own....anyway back to work and only 2 days and I am there again (one of the nice things about where I live is it's not that far to Fraser!!)150 Silver Diesel GXL Auto with ECB Bullbar, Toyota Factory towbar, Black Widow Drawer system with Fridge slide and cargo barrier, GME UHF 3340 Radio, Waeco 50 Litre Fridge, Rhino Racks and Rhino Basket, ARB Awning, IPF XS Spotties, ABR Sidewinder Dual Battery system,Airtec Snorkel, Bilstien Shockies, King Springs, Poly Airbags and BFG A/T''s. We were o.k. with 18-22 psi for all of it ... but there were some really soft patches ... We helped out 2 elderly ladies who got stuck on the way to Lake birrabeen ... they were running on 45 psi ... (lowered from 65!)

At low tide it could take up to 3hrs, however u have some hard sections along the way to negotiate, namely ngkala rocks, which is about 2 hours up the beach, u would want to arrive their at low tide, to give u plenty of beach to get to the top, this is not normally a trip taken lightly, at low tide not to bad any other time it would be hard going.Originally posted by Warnsie View PostAt low tide...Rob

Just back from Fraser (well a few days ago)....we were Glamping this time with some non 4WD people over in a house at Kingfisher....so just took them for a run on Saturday to Central Station and Lake McKenzie, and then on Sunday across to the beach, up past the Maheno, back down to Eurong (for the usual Pie and Sauce) and back over the inland tracks to Kingfisher. Nothing too adventurous but when you have some virgins on board it probably pays not to scare them too much.
The tracks (inland) seem to be in a pretty poor condition (maybe the lack of rain) BUT in saying that never got out of high range. The only interesting part was coming in and out of Kingfisher resort, but still low range not needed for my mighty Prado!!
I had dropped the pressures to 22 and didn't need to adjust again, although I was losing a bit of traction in some of the soft stuff (in answer to the question above somewhere).
The poor condition of the tracks I would suggest would be largely to do with the tour buses....they thump along at a fair pace and looks like they don't worry too much about Tyre Pressures, it could also come from the volume of vehicles going over them....fairly crowded andnot even school holidays!!
Loads and loads of back packers on Fraser these days (gee hasn't that changed from years ago), and I must say the scantily clad Blonde Scandinavians do get the heart thumping (yes darling I'm only looking not touching).....If you were smart enough you'd remember that you avoid the middle of the day times if you want to enjoy the lakes with a bit of tranquility.....note to self....next time!!
Anyway as always a fun place to be, much prefer camping to glamping but it was nice to head back to a hot shower, a cold beer and someone else cooking the steak each night!!
I must go back...and soon!!150 Silver Diesel GXL Auto with ECB Bullbar, Toyota Factory towbar, Black Widow Drawer system with Fridge slide and cargo barrier, GME UHF 3340 Radio, Waeco 50 Litre Fridge, Rhino Racks and Rhino Basket, ARB Awning, IPF XS Spotties, ABR Sidewinder Dual Battery system,Airtec Snorkel, Bilstien Shockies, King Springs, Poly Airbags and BFG A/T''s. You need to go up past Waddy Point and all the way to Sandy Cape if you can, it's more beautiful up there (in my opinion only). Sadly I didn't have the time on this occasion, but I travel there a bit (one of the joys of being fairly close) so I'll get back to that area next time. There's a LOT to see and do on Fraser, and some much tougher 4WD stuff if interested...I think 4WD Action did a trip up there about 12-18 months ago, I probably have the DVD at home (that I haven't watched) so if into the extreme stuff see if you can get a copy of that. Otherwise you'll enjoy the inland tracks and love the beach run.150 Silver Diesel GXL Auto with ECB Bullbar, Toyota Factory towbar, Black Widow Drawer system with Fridge slide and cargo barrier, GME UHF 3340 Radio, Waeco 50 Litre Fridge, Rhino Racks and Rhino Basket, ARB Awning, IPF XS Spotties, ABR Sidewinder Dual Battery system,Airtec Snorkel, Bilstien Shockies, King Springs, Poly Airbags and BFG A/T''s.
