Has there been any further updates on this trip?
Possible date changes / Planned overnight stay locations etc...

Starting to plan as big year for me for trips.

    1) Victorian GTG before Easter.
    2) Local 4WD Tri-State GTG at Rydel, NSW
    3) Cape York.
    4) Other 4WD Club Trips.

Suggestion - Could break group into say 5-10 Vehicles, leave 1 day apart, but altogether at Cape York, briefly.

    Stuart
Stuart the dates haven't changed, these dates were for people with school age kids to give them a chance to come. It would be easier if we didn't follow the school holidays but would only change the dates now if everyone who was coming agreed. I also think the majority have already asked for leave. Stuart I had no intention of doing one large group.

Dates: Sat 21st June 2014 to Sat 5th July We leave the week before the Qld School holidays.

    Rough Itinerary and can change:

    Cape York 2014
Sat: Cairns to Maytown: We leave Cairns and travel inland through Mareeba and turn off the bitumen and head to historic Maytown.

Sunday: Maytown to Hahn River: We travel the old coach road which is a real challenge. Depending on time we may stop at Jowalbinna Rock Art Safari Camp of further up the road at Hahn River.

Monday: Hahn River to Moreton Telegraph Station.

Tuesday: Moreton Telegraph Station to Dulhunty River. Today we tackle the start of the OTL.

Wednesday: Dulhunty River. Enjoy a day relaxing in the clear waters of the Dulhunty River.

Thursday: Dulhunty River to Eliot Falls. We tackle the remaining southern part of the OTL crossing Gunshot creek and Cockatoo Creek.

Friday to Sat: Members must book a camp sites at Eliot falls and this will be our base for a couple of days. I will advise which sites to book and when as we can only book 6 months in advance. From here we will do the northern part of the OTL without the campers then travel to the Cape itself.(Members who have not been to the Cape can just do the OTL and head to the Cape after Vrylia Point) Here you can top up with food and drinks and get your photo taken at the Tip. This will be a full day and we will head back to our base camp that afternoon.

Sunday: Eliot Falls to Vrylia Point. We travel via the Development road to Vrilya Point and camp at the northern end.

Monday: Explore the area and drive along the beach to the Cottrell River , fish and watch the stunning sunsets over the Gulf.

    Tuesday: A day to relax.

Wed: Time to head back down the track and part ways or members can head up to the Cape if they did not wish to do the trip while at Eliot Falls.

    Cheers
    Robert
Robert I have read this and I have also talked to MCGIRR on myswag and know in 2012 they took 27 vehicles but some had already done the cape trip before. We need to find out how many of these Ppointers will be confirmed.

We are Cape rookies, but are fairly confident off-road. Only thing that worries me is Nolan's, but I'd love to say I've done it! We will be 'oztenting' it.

Edit: Would anyone be interested in doing the CREB as a prelude (weather permitting) and meeting up with the others at Cooktown?
Creb trek, there is no reason that you could not do that and meet in Cook Town. Done that track previously last cape trip.

Nolans and the one before Nolans (name escapes me). Excellent camping facilities at Cockatoo with huge undercover area and immaculate toilets. I'll bring the Loctite and a roll of denso tape to wrap a few starter motors. What is it with electrics and water???

A couple of piccies from Sept

Rob, you got back and planning another trip, good work! when we did the cape last time I wanted to go up a year later with myswag.
Can people please email me at [email protected] if they are definitely 100% coming. Could you tell me if your are leaving the group at the tip to make your own way back home or want to travel down Captains Billy landing, Frenchman's trk(chili beach), Weipa all subject to change and time frame.
We would also like to organise Stickers, T-Shirts, stubby holders etc and if anyone has good contacts give us a yell. CraigM has already done a good design.
I was thinking of a map of QLD with Tele trk, the tip, frenchmans trk marked on the map for a design of a tshirt but everything comes down to cost and what people are happy to pay.
    Anders and Sheree

Bring it on . I think we have another option for Palm Creek and don't have to do this one.

You should enter that photo in the River section of the PP Calender Comp Anders.

                  • Had a chat to the Old Man and he's keen as, I'll be doing Maytown instead of the Bloomfield at the start though. Would be more than happy for anyone to join in, with a view to meet up day 3 (Musgrave/ Archer River) to do the rest. Beyond that just happy to go with the flow. A visit to Vrilya Point is another must do for us , either on the way up or back doesn't matter.

                    Cheers,
                    Dusty

                      • Well.. Bugger.. I won't be able to get that time in June off. Anyone interested in doing a similar itinerary mid-late July? the Mrs and I are going to go whether on our own or not. Would be great to have someone to travel with and look out for each other. Even if its only part the way.

                        • Just booked flights up for the family (so I hope the dates don't change wildly). If anyone else is planning to drive up and fly the family up to meet them, Jetstar is having a sale. I got flights for the 3 of them Brisbane to Cairns for $89 each. It adds a bit to the cost of the trip but if it saves them 3 days of driving and grumpiness from being stuck in the car before we even start the trip then it's money well spent in my opinion. Plus Jetstar gives you a countdown timer till your next flight which will now be my official countdown timer till we start the trip. 152 days and counting!

                          • Due to starting a new job, I will now not have the leave available to do the Cape trip in 2014. (Gutted) I already have a 6 week vacation booked OS for a family holiday and that holiday must take priority. "Happy Wife, Happy Life" (Apparently)...

Looks like 2015 now so I'll just have to be patient, which I expect will be a big year for me and my Prado...There's the Tassie GTG, the Simmo and of course the Cape to be tackled I'll just have to hold my breath for a little longer.
