    Cheers Matt
    Hey Matt,

The plan is to leave via hervey.
Even stay a night or 2.....
So we would love to come and drink your beer :-)
But we don't drink beer, only coke so won't be able to make it.
    Not!

For this trip, I think, when phone service is available, I will endevour to update this post as to where we are and are heading next.
This will help for anyone to join in at any time.

Chatting with the old man and we realised neither of us have driven on the island since I was married 17 years ago! So to say we're keen is an understatement. All set and will be ready and waiting at Inskip for the Mexican Crew!

For all those who are travelling up via Tewantin, bookmark this link http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/cooloola/pdf/cooloola-conditions-report.pdf which provides info of track conditions, tide times etc for the Cooloola region...
Note that Mudlo rocks just before the Rainbow beach township is currently impassable and has been for some time. (this is where all the 4wds die and photographic evidence can be seen on walls at various locations around Rainbow). At this point in time, you will need to use the Freshwater track to get to Rainbow, but check for updates on the link.

The last time i popped up to Rainbow for lunch & went through Mudlo rocks there was a little Rav4 with a box trailer attached washed about 3-4 meters up into the top of the rocks. The high tide/waves must have just picked it up and thrown it around like a tonka toy.
It looked quite funny but if anyone was in it at the time it got thrown up there they would have been shitting themselves, i know i would have.

                      Cheers
                      James.

Hey thanks for that, when you say impassable for some time, how long is that?

I have been going yearly to DI for the last 4 yrs and I would never attempt the beach run to rainbow, just not worth the risk to save 1/2 hour. The freshwater track is not a bad drive.

That said, if you are heading to Fraser via Teewah, I would still advise going past the freshwater entrance, and taking the leisha track (the way you would go if you were going via mudlo rocks) to have a look at Double Island Point and the coloured sands still.

How long is a piece of string Anthony? With all the storm activity we have been having up here this Summer, it's hard to say. Really it's in the hands of mother nature to restore the shoreline... We were up there a couple of weeks ago and with some really high tides, there wasn't much beach to drive on so we headed down the Freshwater track which is a nice little drive in itself anyway..

Many good reasons to avoid this section if you're not confident (or knowing what you're doing...)... Mudlo Rocks Carnage

Went through on the 2nd Jan with no dramas, obviously there's been some rough weather since so it's likely to have changed.
