    Dan,
As you haven't met any PP'ers we have to fix that!. I'll come out for a day trip on Sunday the 7th for a day on the tracks and a relaxing lunch.
I'll probably have one of my little boys with me as well.
It's about 2 hours from me ,so I will be there about 9am'ish and stay to about 4pm which will have me home about 6pm

    Cheers

Good stuff mate, look forward to meeting you and all others who decide to venture out for the day or weekend.

Craig, I was hoping the road may have opened by July, if not we may save the Condamine for another Sunday drive.

My UHF install didn't go as planned today. I bought the plug n play kit a while ago but decided to make it a permanent fixture.
New antenna install went fine, as did the wiring and mounting the UHF head unit.
Unfortunately the unit has a bug and no longer transmits or receives any sound at all.

Very strange for a GME tx3100 I am told, BCF are sending it to GME for repair/replacement.

On the upside, I am happy with the look of the install

Rob depending on how the birthday party goes on the 6th I could also be keen to join you for a day run on the 7th. Will advise closer to the date.

          Cheers Dan

I wouldn't mind joining you for the day run if I'm free. I went down on Sunday for a look and I couldn't believe how HUGE the place was. It's massive. The 4wd play area was getting a workout from the campers in their 4wds. There were cars doing donuts in the muddy black soil in the middle of the play area and giving the short steep inclines a crack. Some were successful, others weren't. It was slippery. I parked the car and watched for a bit.

There were 10 acre fields surrounded by forest that you can camp in and not have any other campers in sight. Some areas were busy... All along the creek was pretty popular, whereas other areas weren't at all.

I offered to pay the vehicle fee when I went for a look, but they said they weren't really set up for day visitors so no need to pay anything which was nice of them.
I tried to follow the main 4wd track just past the 4wd play area but it couldn't be driven due to the wet conditions. The black soil track was as slippery as ice & that's no exaggeration. The car was slipping & sliding all over the place just driving it very slowly to the first bog hole in low range. That part of the track was fairly level. It was dicey getting around the bog hole on the short bypass to the left without slipping into it. If I did, the winch would've been needed to get out and I wasn't too keen that day to get dirty. When it became slightly cambered beyond then on the slight incline the car wouldn't track straight and just kept sliding straight off onto the grass where it then gripped and I had it in 2nd low at walking speed. I had to turn around as I didn't want to get too much further up there and then have to come back down. Soon after on Ch25, park management repeatedly advised they were closing those tracks on the "Gatton" side due to safety as it had become dangerous. they said they were closing the gate and locking it. All I saw was yellow tape stretching across the entrance when they closed it... No gate.

It's a pretty cool place out there. The cabins I saw were in a huge field and spaced a long way from one another so no reason for anyone to come near your cabin and impose on your privacy.

Gotta love that black soil country!
Imagine being up in the hills and getting caught in a storm? You'd be parking your car and walking down I reckon...

Oh definitely. Your car would end up on it's side, or pressed hard up against a tree.... Or at the bottom of a drop off or something for sure. You have to leave it there until the tracks dried out. I'd never driven on anything like that before. If I got a fair bit further up I would've been in big trouble trying to get the car back down safely which just wouldn't have happened. Where ever the camber goes on that black soil is where your car is going to go too. forget having the ability to steer on it and the rear end will have a mind of it's own too. My mud terrain tyres were rendered useless in that black soil and turned into slicks immediately once the tread was thick with muddy soil just from driving really slowly.

You'd be toying with the idea of getting hurt even riding a horse at walking speed on one of those tracks in the wet haha.

Thanks for the write up Brett, sounds like a good choice for our first real 4wd holiday, other than North Straddie that is.

Lets hope the weather is kind over the next few weeks. I don't mind a bit of mud but if dangerously slippery... :/

Anyhoo... Got my roadsafe recovery points fitted up today and OME lift being done on Wednesday next week, so will be good to go.

Awesome cmy, sounding like we will have a nice little crew for Sunday drive.

For those coming out for the day, perhaps meeting at our cabin (Forestry Cabin) to head off around 9.30am for a drive?

                        Unless you have other ideas?
