We arrived at Gordon Country just before 11am and coincidentally Hazza and co were just ahead of us when we got to the Homestead.
We met up with Tiny and family at the campground and had a bit of a chinwag before we made our way to our cabin, another km or so up the road, to unpack and feed bub.
Unfortunately by the time we were ready to head off for a drive, Hazza and co were out of radio range so we missed going with them.
Will have to catch up another time soon guys, sorry we were too late to meet up again.
We did go for a drive though and met up with some other people along the way and drove with them for the afternoon.
Back to the cabin by 3.30pm and then off to chop some firewood. They let you use chainsaws at Gordon country so we loaded the back of the Prado and had a raging fire back at the cabin that night.
We rose early in the morning, was a rough night with bub waking constantly, partly due to the cold.
I stoked up the fire again to get some warmth as it was quite fresh until the sun started warming things up.
Gumboot and son arrived for the day around 9.30am and all of us had a chat with Tiny and family for a while before we all headed into the "pit" for a bit of a play.

Once all the fun was over we said goodbye to Tiny and family who headed back to pack up camp.
We then proceeded up the track which leads up to the ridge to the North of Gordon Country.
The tracks were in reasonable condition, some spots very muddy from the recent rain and making things a little challenging with steep drop-offs and squirmy terain.
I didn't get a lot of photos but lots a Gopro footage which I will try to cut down and edit when I can.
The view from the top of the ridge facing North was breathtaking!

Great report... great to see the little one with such a big smile
I had a look at the temps for Warwick and it got down to 1.8 deg at 6am on Sunday morning according to my little weather app on the phone.
I'd say you can take another 1 or 2 deg off that for where you were!!
Cheers, Leon There's no such thing as a wrong turn... it's just the scenic route!

We arose to a lovely sunny winters morning, after a hearty breakfast and a hot coffee , my eldest boy and myself were on the road and leaving Brisbane behind. A little over two hours away and we were over the range. Brisbane really is spoilt for choice for great 4wding just a couple of hours away. ( CityView, Scenic Rim, Levuka, Gordon Country, Moreton Island, Glasshouse mountains, Cooloola, Janowen Hills etc)
We soon arrived at Gordon County and met up with Tiny & family who had camped out overnight. Looks like they were defrosting from a chilly night! Dan and Family rocked up at the same time and we had a good chat while warming up in the sun as the boys ran down to the creek. It easy to keep an eye on them and not very deep in parts, Endless hours of fun can be had there.
Just up the road at the start of the 4wd track, we stopped off at the Quarry to have some fun. Some nice little hill climbs and descents to be had where Dan and Tiny were testing out their Hill descent

From here we followed a 4wd track up toward the ridge and we quickly came to the first bog hole. It had been raining out there recently and the black soil was very wet and muddy. We thought discretion was the better part of valour for the first obstacle of the morning , especially as the stick disappeared over a metre into the mud and water. So here is where found a little gully, Problem was it just the right length to swallow the Prado, In I went and as the Prado sank into the mud, I could feel the front push hard against the mud on the other side as a plough and I came to a stop. Meanwhile the back just sank in the mud, until the mud was up to the fuel tanks, axels and the rear bumper . (AJ whens that rear bar ready.? J) We weren’t going anywhere. The hissing sound I could hear at the rear, wasn’t a broken air-line but instead the rear exhaust completely buried in the goo.
Incapable of winching forward or backwards without ripping off the rear bumper, out came the shovels. Now I must say this was the stickiest mud I have seen in a long time. . [ No strike that, it wasn’t mud but an evil incarnation made of 1 part clay, 1 part glue, ,1 part black soil and a whole lot of stinky stuff.] I had a shovel fully inverted and the mud didn’t move from the shovel, it could even defied gravity, shaking the shovel or banging it on the ground it wouldn’t budge at all . I ended up using my boots to scrapping it off each shovel full, where upon it decided to stick to my boots for the rest of the day. Anyway it was step and repeat….. Dan got the photo of my best side bending over above!
Once the fuel tank, bumper, hitch etc were free of the mud, Dan hooked up the snatch strap and dragged me back out like champion. I feel somewhat guilty though as Dan produced his clean , white snatch strap, alas it was never to be that white again.
We then said out goodbyes to Tiny and family as he was off to pack up camp and we continued on up the track with Dan and family. The track followed the ridge line, and some parts were nice and firm where it was well drained.

It was the areas that weren’t well drained that has held the water from the recent rain that were muddy and slippery. We took a different way down and this turned into a cracker, Lots of mud and a barrel of fun. I missed photos of some of the really muddy sections or the bit where Dan was sliding backwards towards the Dam. Nice driving to get out of that one mate.
This then lead us out to the final creek crossing at the end of the track down near the homestead.
We stopped to air up as the day had drawn to and end for us and said our goodbyes for the drive home. It was great to meet up with you Dan and hope to see you at the next camp or daytrip. And yes, Rueben did play that “Radioactive” song ALL the way home…….!

You got some good shots there Rob!
It was a lot of fun and we are looking forward to getting back out there again.
Thinking of having a 4 day weekend camping in October sometime, either at Gordon Country or somewhere similar.

With Dan’s permission I will add a short trip report.
Staying at Warwick Thursday and Friday of the same weekend myself Georgev and another 150 Prado Clem’s stock standard tackled The Springs 4WD Park half way between Warwick and Gatton on the Friday. We were welcomed by well set-up park starting out in the play area after airing down. Georgev tried the mud pit and got in trouble with some water getting into the cab.
I must apologise for the quality of the photos but as I drowned my camera back at City View these are video snap shots.
After a few back and forth motions he drove out with a yippee to the kids relief.
